A year has passed since Anthony Godfrey began his mission in Serbia.
The American ambassador in Belgrade summarized his first year in office in our country. He recorded a video in which, in SERBIO, he expressed his impressions.
As Godfrey says, he fell in love with Serbia!
In the video, Anthony Godfrey says:
“It has been a year since my family and I came to Belgrade. The position of American Ambassador to Serbia is the most important part of my professional career. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for a wonderful first year.
The year 2020 was not easy for any of us. Kovid claimed tens of thousands of lives. My father is among the deceased, as well as relatives of several other colleagues from our embassy. I appreciate the condolences. I am also grateful to my wife Anne, who is working with her new friends to make Serbian women strong and independent.
Our lives have turned upside down. Still, I look at the past year with hope and optimism. Despite all the challenges, we worked together and did great things that we can be proud of.
Serbs and Americans were once again side by side, helping each other. Do not forget that Air Serbia and the Government of Serbia made the Americans return home. We also try to help our friends in Serbia. We brought in aid worth more than four million dollars.
As I said, our association is getting stronger and that is why we have every reason to be optimistic.
All this will pass, we will be stronger than ever.
This first year as an ambassador renewed my faith in the ability of people to always find a solution, be it a vaccine or an exciting new era in US-Serbian relations.
Thanks to the vision of those who lead us and the faith in the values we share with Europe, we bring changes and unite them.
The past is our guide, when the United States and Serbia were allies in the most difficult moments.
I have great ambitions and I believe that today we can achieve even more stability and prosperity in Serbia.
The friendship between our peoples is stronger than ever. I promise I’ll keep working on it.
Being an ambassador does not simply mean sitting in meetings, writing reports, or talking about trade policy. I happened to fall in love with the people, landscapes and culture of Serbia.
And yes, I also discovered your delicious invisible food. Wow!
Serbia, thank you so much for making me feel like a beloved guest and for being ready to rebuild friendship with the United States.
Thanks for everything.
Best of all, we’re just getting started. “
