Speaking about how things haven’t been going well in Serbia for a long time and how he thinks people will leave here even more, Seka Sablić delivered a great phrase that hit many square in the eyes.

– Only if each one does something with his “small” contribution, believing in the power of the truth and not the lie, is it possible to overcome the agony in which we live. And the future is shrouded in dense fog anyway, and when the crown recedes, people will leave here. And that is natural. The homeland is where you feel good, not where the sarma is – Said, among other things, the famous actress for the latest issue of the weekly NIN.

This part of the great interview, which was also extracted as the main title of the entire number, was received with a storm in the public, where those who condemn the actress are starring, asking that it be “canceled”. They are bothered by the fact that Seka Sablić said that it is completely normal and understandable for people to go where they are best, where they have the opportunity for a better and more paying job, where they will be happier and more satisfied, for a chance to progress.

They are bothered by the fact that she has said what has been known for decades, that young people and scholars are leaving Serbia more and more often. According to estimates by the OECD organization, around 49,000 people emigrate from Serbia every year, which includes so-called temporary migrations.

Whether someone stays in Serbia and tries to build a good life here, or goes abroad to use his potential there, it is a deeply personal matter and he cannot succumb to blanket comments like “sarma is better when the mother is ready.” It is best when it is prepared without thinking if you have enough money for all the ingredients and when you don’t have to prepare it for 3 days.

Both Norwegians and Swedes are emigrating in search of a better job, and we are not … So, let’s leave Seka Sablić alone, although we are sure that those comments do not concern her in particular.

In the interview, he also commented on the situation in culture, answering the question of whether and how everyday politics affects the life of theater, cinema, art in general.

– Here art is on the fringes of society. With such an orientation, young people are left to cheapness, their values disturbed or they are condemned to emigrate from the country, to flee from here. Well, they used to expel the best to Siberia. It is natural in such regimes that all who are worthwhile, all who have integrity, literacy, and thought agree. Every independent intellectual here is upset and should be removed, just as Stalin removed anyone who could sign. Since the culture is marginalized, that society leads to depression and apathy. In the world, civilized nations pursue their own interests and it takes the best to achieve that interest. That is not the case here – said Seka Sablić to Nin.
