A new coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2 may spread indoors, new study findings suggest.
SARS-CoV-2 was found in the air in confined spaces or in areas without ventilation, the researchers found in a study that confirms the existing claim that COVID-19 can be spread by small particles in the air, known as aerosols.
The researchers, led by Ke Lan of Wuhan University, installed so-called aerosol traps at two hospitals in Wuhan, China, and found that fragments of the virus’s genetic material float in the air from hospital toilets, indoors. through which more people pass and rooms where medical personnel remove protective equipment.
Scientists in a study published Monday in the journal Nature Research did not determine whether airborne particles can even cause infection.
