The full text of Jankovic’s Open Letter is transmitted in its entirety:

Dear President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandra Vucic. I am writing to you as the first Protector of citizens in the history of this country and the second in the presidential elections, who, despite all our differences and all that has survived from you and from you, has not forgotten what We have in common: Serbia, our unique and common homeland.

I am writing to you because our Serbia is getting closer and closer to open internal conflict. People are on the edge. Many have stayed longer and this number is increasing rapidly. You feel it yourself, no matter what the armchairs say around you.

This is not the time to talk about why it is so simple, it is. Any responsible person, no matter what they think, who is right and who would be stronger in the conflict, has an obligation to prevent civil conflict. That commitment is greater than any policy. It defines us as patriots and patriots, or people of starving power at all costs.

Use, for the last time, the absolute power you have now. First, use your authority to immediately end all acts of violence against your political dissidents.

Immediately, then, he urges opposition leaders to share responsibility with citizens for the democratic electoral process, not only now, but also in the future, whoever is in power.

He proposes that together in the assembly, mostly required for amendments to the Constitution, they will vote for a lex specialty that, due to the consequences of the state of emergency and the need to guarantee the success of the electoral process, will delay the elections.

At the same time, pass a law on a technical electoral government: from the moment of announcing the elections to the formation of a government, allow each minister to have an opposition co-minister and each firm to require both signatures.

You know I am not inventing anything, just like this, in a similar situation in Macedonia, bloodshed was prevented. And that this is true for all subsequent elections.

Of course, as I propose this, I exclude myself from the theoretical possibility of participating in it. Also, the first one that tells you that you should never do this at all and release it and take it off. He holds his prey and nothing else.

Your electoral victory so far would be a Pyr victory. And the eventual conflict would only go to your soul: now you have absolute authority, even responsibility.

If you are asked for something from abroad, say you cannot do it in this situation. Strangers cannot and will not save you from an enraged people, and if you do as I suggest and plead with you, these proud people will not let these strangers judge you, like Milosevic.

The history of Serbia, to which you refer so often, will not forgive you if a countryman steps on a countryman. When you really love something, you don’t sacrifice it to prove you are right.

I think we love Serbia, our libertarian heritage and the peaceful future of all our children.
