Vlada Šahović of Initiative A11 said live on the day that it is necessary for the state to increase the capacity of institutions for housing the homeless, noting that criminal charges were brought against the director of that institution in the last eight months for people in need are suspected and denied access.

It should be remembered that the call for Initiative A11 for the Shelter of Adults and the Elderly to urgently allow the admission of beneficiaries who are on the streets and without the support of the social protection system has borne fruit. The doors of the shelter are open to those in need of decent shelter, care and nutrition.

“Since the beginning of the crisis, the competent authorities have not taken any measures directed at the most vulnerable group of members of our society. And so it has been to this day. Kumodraška Street to this day, “declared Šahović.

According to him, Initiative A11 informed the public about a homeless man who lives in an abandoned house without windows, doors and hygienic conditions, who is ill and cannot use the therapy he was prescribed.

“It is just one of a series of people who find themselves in such a situation, who need the service of a shelter, to be able to go through the crisis and the epidemic. The latest data we have is from the 2011 census, which states that in “There are 164 people in a state of primary distress, with a footnote that refers to the report from the” Housing Center “, which states that there are 346 people in that state. position, “Sahovic said.

He believes that this is not a real figure either and that there are more people in Serbia who need this type of accommodation.

Sahovic welcomes the decision to open the doors of the Shelter on Kumodraska Street and points out that there should not have been a situation where in the last eight months, people who needed a roof over their heads had nowhere to go.

“The shelter referred to the instructions of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, but nowhere in those instructions and recommendations did it say that the guaranteed provision of services to people in need should be abolished. The fact that the state of Serbia, Based on international agreements that prescribe the right to adequate housing, he still has an obligation to care for people who need help, “Sahovic said.

He stated that Initiative A11 filed a criminal complaint against the director of the Shelter for the suspicion that she committed the crime of labor negligence in the service in accordance with article 361 of the Penal Code.

“As a responsible person in the institution, he obviously acted unscrupulously in the performance of his service, although he was aware that such actions would have serious consequences for people in need of help,” Šahović specified.

He highlighted that in the last eight months, homeless people have been helped by non-governmental organizations.
