Mother’s Day is the largest Christian holiday for mothers and women in our nation, our only holiday.
Just as fathers tied up their children last week, today young children tie up their mothers.
Children usually get up before their mother and tie her up while she is still in bed, but they can also tie her up later while she does household chores.
The mother “defends”, “helps”, “begs” to be untied because she is “in a great job”, but the children do not agree until they receive a “ransom”.
It is redeemed with gifts that can be modest, such as a candy or an apple.
Love and intimacy are important, and all members of the family should share them this holiday. Married women from the area, neighbors, aunts, grandmothers …
A festive and fasting lunch is prepared for the Christmas fast, bringing the whole family together.
Mothers are, as they used to be, today an opportunity to make the poor or children without fathers happy. In the past, women who had married childless daughters came to visit them, bringing cakes and gifts for redemption, daughters’ material for dress, son-in-law’s shirt.
In a deeper ecclesiastical context, the parties of Children, Mothers and Parents do not connect just one generation, but all generations of parents and children in reverse.
This connection goes back to the earliest and most ancient times in biblical history, when we remember all the great women of pre-Christian and Christian times.
