“A great move by President Vučić,” Pompeo wrote Twitter.
In his announcement, Pompeo assessed that Hezbollah’s European operations are crumbling like dominoes.
“Serbia’s announcement that it will label Hezbollah as a terrorist organization as a whole helps to further limit the ability of that terrorist group to raise funds and operate in the region,” the US Secretary of State said.
Mike Pompeo noted in a State Department statement that this is another important step limiting Hezbollah’s ability, which Iran supports, to act in Europe.
The statement said the important action was announced as part of President Donald Trump’s historic commitments on a wide range of economic normalization issues between Belgrade and Pristina, along with steps both sides are taking to help achieve peace in the Middle East.
“There is no doubt that Hezbollah’s European operations are collapsing like dominoes, where it continues to plan terrorist attacks, acquire military technology and raise much-needed funds,” the State Department states.
The statement recalls that the recent actions of Germany and Lithuania against Hezbollah follow the measures taken by Great Britain and the so-called Kosovo.
The United States continues to call on the European Union and European countries to brand or completely ban Hezbollah and recognize that both the root and branches of the terrorist organization do not distinguish between so-called “military” and “political” wings, according to the statement. .
Pompeo also called on all countries in Europe and elsewhere to “do everything possible to prevent Hezbollah operatives, recruiters and financiers from operating in their territories.”
