Hydrometeorological Institute of the Republic (RHMZ) issued a warning due to the creation of a snow cover in Serbia, and that warning is valid until Monday.
According to the announcements, at the end of the day and at night in southwestern Serbia, a layer of snow 5 to 15 cm high will be created, in the mountains 15 to 25 cm.
The rain that fell overnight in the early hours of the morning turned into sleet and snow. A layer of snow of several centimeters has already formed in Kamena Gora and Jabuka.
– For now, all roads are passable, during the day we are ready to receive heavier snowfalls – said Zivko Kijanovic, president of the local Kamena Gora community.
Snow has been falling heavily in Zlatibor for several hours, and in the surrounding villages the snow cover has reached a height of four inches.
The snowfall didn’t miss Čačak either, early this morning the rain turned into sleet and snow.
Snow has been falling in the municipality of Gornji Milanovac for hours, and in the villages on the slopes of Mount Suvobor a layer of snow of several centimeters has already formed.
Announcement for next week
RHMZ also announced that a strong southeast wind (košava) will blow in the south of Banat from Monday to Wednesday with occasional storms with a maximum speed of 24 to 28 m / s.
On Monday we will have mostly cloudy, windy and much warmer weather.
In most places in Serbia, the highest temperature will be 10-15 degrees.
Caution when driving due to snow at night
In Serbia today, rain in low-lying areas will occasionally turn to sleet and snow during the afternoon and evening, so drivers will be accompanied mainly by wet roads and, in some places, less visibility.
Combined with colder weather, ice can create, which is a slipping hazard, warns AMSS.
In the mountainous areas of southern and southwestern Serbia, a layer of snow will form, so certain mountain roads will be covered with snow and where, in addition to winter tires, drivers will also have to use chains.
