The part of the DS that organized the elections in the Democratic Party announced tonight that actor Branislav Lecic was elected the new president of the party, as well as five other vice presidents.

At the press conference it was said that the members of 105 municipal boards voted and that the turnout was 72.6 percent, and the final results will be announced in 48 hours and then they will be verified in the electoral assembly.

As announced from this faction of DS, the voting in the Old Town was violently interrupted and, except for that incident, everything went well.

– This is a festival of democracy, everyone who felt that a Democrat could vote, not just those who paid the fee. This is the day when democracy is renewed – said Lecic.

He called on all Democrats to come together and stand together in this effort.

– The time has come to tackle citizens’ problems. They thought they would destroy the DS, but this party proved it difficult. This is a great victory for me and the most important role, I will do it as I did on stage. Successfully – said Lecic.

According to him, the game has restarted and starts from scratch.

The President of the Organizing Committee, Vida Ognjenović, then addressed the gathering.

– I have a bitter taste in my mouth and an unpleasant sensation due to today’s incident. It was an unusual performance, typical of other parties. This procedure is the one that best justifies why we separated. Those who ordered the removal of the sign in Nusiceva should be ashamed, Ognjenovic said.

As he says, the Democratic Party now follows the formation of the Assembly.

In addition to Lecic, the DS has five vice-presidents: Vojislav Jankovic, Petar Radojcic, prof. Dr. Milica Slijepcevic, prof. Dr. Dragoslav Šumarac and Jovana Jovanović.

Earlier today, former DS deputy Balša Božović said that there were incidents during elections organized by a DS part and that the broken ballot boxes and ballots were smashed, and that members of the DS electoral commission in the old town were attacked physically.

On Twitter, Bozovic accused DS Vice President Dragana Rakic of those attacks, who, according to him, does so on behalf of the party’s president, Zoran Lutovac.

The board with the name Democratic Party was removed in front of the party headquarters on Nušićeva Street, and the lock on the door of the party premises was changed.

Božović posted on Twitter a video showing an unknown person removing the board.

He wrote that “Zoran Lutovac and Dragana Rakić are removing the last traces of the DS headquarters” and asked “on whose behalf they are doing this and on whose behalf.”

These elections were not recognized by Zoran Lutovac and the current party leadership.

“A small group of former and current party officials are trying to organize elections in violation of the Statute of the Democratic Party and using illegal and illegitimate methods, abusing access to the Democratic Party headquarters on Nusiceva Street,” the DS said in a release.

While the Lecic current announced the results of today’s vote, the other party sent a letter to the Ministry of State Administration and Local Autonomy, in which, as they say, according to the law, they ask that the new leadership not be registered in the registry of political parties.

The DS now practically has two presidents, Zoran Lutovac and Lecic, and who is legitimate and legal will remain in dispute.
