One of the former leaders of the Resistance movement in Novi Sad and author of the recently published book on Resistance, Aleksandar Maric, said that Aleksandar Vucic learned a lot from those Slobodan Milosevic mistakes that led to the fall of his regime on October 5, 2000.

“Everything that Milosevic ever made mistakes or made wrong moves, as if the current government is systematically following him and finding ways to correct it. Of course, correct in the sense of staying in power as long as possible, and not in the sense of improving the standard and quality of life of the citizens of Serbia, “Maric said in an interview with Al Jazeera.

He said Otpor and the old opposition could have reached Milosevic, because, unlike Vucic, “at least he was consistent about something.”

Maric believes that the “deviation” that exists in Serbia towards political parties is a consequence of the propaganda of the regime, which managed to convince citizens that “we are all equal”.

“Honestly, it seems to me that the current opposition in Serbia is better and more responsible than DOS. There we had Risticevic, Velja, Dinkic, Ced and a lot of other characters that we knew were a lesser evil than Milosevic. In the end, We also had Kostunica, for whose evil deeds we have this new old government today, “said Maric.

He added that today “there is nothing more honorable or correct than being active in one of the opposition parties.”

“We need to fight this imposed narrative that politics is dirty and political parties are ugly. Affiliation with any opposition political party should be constantly and proudly emphasized everywhere. “With the same pride that we (in ‘Otpor’) we carry a clenched fist to our chest,” believes Maric.

Maric placed his book on “Resistance” “Earth for us” in the period before the fall of Milosevic, and announces a sequel, which will deal with “Resistance” and “Resistance” after the changes of October 5.

“The first part is a book about youth, love and revolution. The other part is quite bitter, sobering. At the end of the first part, we are still children, young people, and in the second part we will suddenly grow up, faced with the real world and unfulfilled hopes, “said Maric.

He spoke of the experiences of “Otpor” during two thousand conferences to young activists in ex-world countries, which is why in 2004, by personal order of the then President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, he was expelled from the country.
