Residents of ten villages in the vicinity of Gornji Milanovac sent a letter to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, inviting him to visit the memorial complex that is being built in the town of Pranjani, dedicated to the mission of rescuing American pilots during WWII “Halliard”.

The letter states that the Serbian and American peoples “cannot and should not be enemies,” and that the renovated airport, where 500 American airmen were rescued on the “Halliard” mission, is an occasion to “extend a hand of friendship. “.

“We Serbian peasants, educated to respect others and care for our own and always ready to give our lives for the homeland and golden freedom, people of our word and people who respect every well-intentioned person, invite you to visit the place where 500 of their air force officers were rescued, whose fate would have been sealed by fascist persecution had it not been for our fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and some of us living witnesses, ”the letter says.

The letter was signed by the residents of the villages of Pranjani, Kostunici, Kamenica, Gojna Gora, Druzetici, Teocin, Brajici, Polo, Gornji Banjani and Takovo.

The president of the local Pranjani community, Radovan Veselinović, delivered a letter from Trump to the US ambassador in Belgrade, Anthony Godfrey, during his visit to Čačak on September 18.

The opening of the airport for small sports aircraft on the Galovića hill in Pranjani and the “Halijard” memorial complex was announced at the end of September.

The “Halliard” mission was carried out 76 years ago, when several Allied planes landed on Galović Hill, evacuating some 500 American pilots. Within the memorial complex, a museum, two conference rooms and a heliport will be built.
