Research says 200,000 people lost their jobs, Vučić’s data is very different

According to research by the “Secons Development Group Initiative”, carried out with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, some 200,000 people lost their jobs in Serbia during the coronavirus pandemic and state of emergency. Such a number is far from that available to the President of Serbia, who points out that, in terms of the number of employees, we are actually blacklisted.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, officials have asked employers to follow the state and not fire workers. A survey conducted by the Secons Group in April this year showed that many did not answer the call, and that meanwhile more than eight percent of workers who were employed in February were sent to the employment office.

The percentage compares with data from the National Statistics Office, according to which there were around 2,900,000 employees in 2019, and the sample of 1,600 respondents also included market vendors, hygienists, caregivers, explains the Secons Group.

“Among the people who lost their jobs, half were fired because their company simply did not work, but also a significant part, about a quarter, claim that their previous short-term contract, which was not renewed, has expired, which It is the same. Therefore, it is to be hoped that employers in this environment, situation and uncertainty are not inclined to easily renew contracts, “said Marija Babović, program director of the Secons Group.

The fact that the pandemic left serious consequences for President Aleksandar Vučić’s country workforce was very surprising.

“And what group, excuse me?” He asked.

Journalist: Sekons Group.

“Which group?”

Journalist: Seconds.

“Grupo Secons? Who are you? What are you, who are you?”

Journalist: People presented the research they were doing …

“They love, who are you? … You can go out tomorrow with a survey in which four million people have lost their jobs. There are not many to work for, but it does not matter, you can go out with that. We are even in the plus of about 633 people, kind of like France, so we don’t have that kind of problem: what 200 thousand people? “

Vučić says the statistics are much more favorable: about 9,000 citizens lost their jobs, but about 9,700 of them found jobs.

“Do you know what 200,000 people are, what kind of black investigation are you talking about? Listen, Secons group, what’s going on in our country, mother. Hyde, show us where these people are. It occurred to us to say something against someone to invent. the worse we invent, the better it will go. And I know, and the Earth is a flat plate, it has more supporters than that Secons group, “he said.

How is it possible that there is such an imbalance between the data of the Second Group and that presented by the first man of the state? The director of that organization’s program assumes that it is the fact that only a small number of people applied to the job office.

“We got the number to be around 8,300, that is the most visible part of the unemployed. Therefore, they are generally people who worked in some formal job status, lost their jobs, applied for the National Employment Service, but our research it includes all those who work informally, those who work in the private sector, with short-term contracts, temporary contracts, without contracts, “explains Babović.

Babovic cannot say why the majority did not apply to the office, but notes that decades of experience show that citizens generally have more confidence in alternative ways of looking for work, adding: Large numbers of them belong to the vulnerable workforce. , and this research showed that in times of crisis in the labor market there is socioeconomic inequality.
