PRISTINA – The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo proposed Ramush Haradinaj as a candidate for the presidency of the so-called Kosovo, which caused friction in the ruling coalition and could lead to new elections, writes Koha of Pristina.
The leader of the Kosovo Democratic League, Isa Mustafa, said that new elections would be held if the Alliance, otherwise a coalition partner of Mustafa’s party, conditioned his permanence in the coalition by supporting his candidate for the presidency.
On the other hand, Koha writes, the Alliance did not say that this was a condition, but that, if Haradinaj is not elected president, new elections will be held. Alliance deputy Rasim Selmanja said it all depends on how the coalition partners will vote.
Elections for the president of the Kosovo provisional institutions are scheduled for next year.
Thaci tries to block the dialogue.
The president of the Kosovo Provisional Institutions, Hashim Thaci, is trying to block the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, demanding that the Kosovo Assembly ban Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti from negotiations on internal affairs, writes Koha de Pristina. On the eve of the Kosovo Assembly session, which should discuss Hoti’s decision on the dialogue, Thaci issued a statement in which he stated that the opening of issues on community rights and the Union of Serbian Municipalities in the Brussels dialogue it was a “big and very risky mistake” by Pristina. that these issues have already been resolved in Ahtisaari’s package.
Hoti’s cabinet declined to comment on Thaci’s statement, but the director of the press service, Xhavit Beqiri, reiterated the position of the Kosovar Albanians that Pristina engaged in a dialogue to achieve mutual recognition.
“The Kosovo delegation entered this process with a single objective, and that is to reach a legally binding comprehensive agreement, which will result in mutual recognition and a Euro-Atlantic perspective of the region,” Beqiri said. The newspaper adds that the discrepancy between Thaci and Hoti was noted Tuesday night, in celebration of the Jewish New Year, when Thaci criticized Hoti and the way he conducted the recent dialogue in Brussels.
