The problem of false and unionized police credentials, which are increasingly abused and used by criminals to commit crimes, must be resolved with the appropriate legal regulations, experts agree, and the Ministry of the Interior announces that they are already taking action.
– In the last month, 30 credentials reminiscent of the police were confiscated – said the Ministry of the Interior and announced changes in the regulations on the unauthorized possession of credentials reminiscent of officers.
– The aforementioned amendments prescribe the prohibition of possession, that is, the use of an official identification plate or card by persons who are not employees of the Ministry of the Interior. In addition, legal entities, associations and natural persons are prohibited from requesting the production, production, marketing, possession or use of an insignia or other brand, that is, brands that contain elements of the visual identity of an official insignia or official identification card. they added.
To return the IDs
Criminologist Zlatko Nikolic says possessing and carrying union or agency IDs should be treated like carrying illegal weapons.
– The police law determines the powers of the police and inspectors, and the ordinance defines the appearance, shape and design of the plaque that, while I was working, was produced by the Mint. Anyone who has a license plate, but is not state, would have to return it. Unions and security agencies should have a month to do so, after which anyone caught with an ID card should be punished as if they had been caught with an illegal weapon, he explains:
– Of course, not everyone will return them, the honest world will return them, but not criminals. However, the number will decrease and it will be easier to control.
As home decoration
We should not use it
Boza Spasic, a former DB operative, says the police have already tried to fix this problem. – That it be resolved in the form of a license, which will be delivered to the honorary members of the guild, and with the rule that the insignia can be part of the home decoration, but should not be worn or used, as decided with weapons in possession legal – says Spasic.
Nikolic says unions and agencies can keep plastic membership cards. – The badges they issue have proven to be good for abuse. The withdrawal and banning of badges is the shortest and most completely legitimate way; he says and adds that it makes no difference whether someone owns a weapon or a badge, because both are a symbol of authority and power.
Must be different
Lazar Ranitović, president of the Serbian Police Union, proposes a somewhat softer solution.
– You cannot find a solution overnight, but the fact is that you have to bring order to the situation. NGOs, agencies and unions, in our opinion, can make their own badges, but they must be unequivocally different from the real ones, such as policemen, but also members of the BIA and VBA. Union badges must not have a state insignia, must not resemble official ones, nor must have a three-part leather binding. Additionally, serial numbers must be entered and the publisher must have records, so the person can be more easily located, says Ranitović.
