“From the response to our announcement, we can see the contempt of the profession, as well as the need to open a new conflict and controversy about art. That is not our intention and we will not respond to that. We ask the representatives of the Ministry to assume responsibility in accordance with their role in the State and society, to apologize to the public and to withdraw the discriminatory statements, ”the statement reads.

The group recalls that in the previous communiqué, they stated that they condemned the abuse of qualifications as “pathology and deviation of conscience”, and the “clandestinity of the human spirit”, which was declared by the ministry.

“The use of such terms and their impact on the public discourse of institutions and politicians, which we have witnessed for a long time, seems to be a great harm and stigma for people living with mental disabilities, it damages the reputation of the professions they deal with. of mental health phenomena and sends a negative message and image about the way in which people can be discredited through the abuse of psychological and psychiatric phenomena, ”the statement said.

A similar statement was sent yesterday by this group of psychologists and psychiatrists, and they also launched a petition condemning the statement of the Ministry of Culture.

The Ministry of Culture asked them today to inform the public of how they have become a language control body and, “if their supervisors allow it”, to publish a list of colloquial expressions that, in their professional opinion, can be used in speech or literary expression, and list the writers. “(Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, Andrić and others) who should be censored or condemned for the abuse of ‘professional expressions’,” the ministry said in a press release.

“We consider, as professions dedicated to mental health, that the qualifications as ‘pathology and deviation of conscience’, as well as ‘the underworld of the human spirit’, are completely inadequate,” the initiators of the petition affirmed.

They added that the use of such words does great harm to people living with mental disabilities, so they called on the authorities to take responsibility and withdraw their statements, and not to make similar mistakes in the future.

The statement was signed by the psychologists Jana Damjanov, Vedrana Mirkovic, Bojana Bodroza, Tijana Karic, Nela Geratovic, Marija Volarov, Jelena Vukicevic, Marija Rosandic, Ines Ezgeta, Rahela Lanji, the psychologist Mladen Ceran, the psychotherapists Lidija Dsena Vasiljejuk, Ksena Vukicevic, Dr., social worker Andjelka Prvulović, psychiatrist Ivanka Dunjić, psychodrama counselors under the supervision of Andrea Forca and Nevena Simić, psychodrama psychotherapist in education, under the supervision of Mina Mišković.
