Several dozen protesters, who oppose the construction of Makiško polje because they believe it will endanger Belgrade’s water supply, managed to break into the corridor of the Sava Center, where the city parliament session is taking place. , where the plan is discussed.

This morning they met in front of the Sava Center, but at first they did not manage to enter the room where the city assembly is located, because members of the Police, the Communal Militia and security prevented them.

After the withdrawal of a small number of members of the Police Brigade, the protesters managed to enter through the first door of the Sava Center, after which security and the Communal Militia detained them in front of the second entrance.

They are currently crying out against the city authorities’ intention to build a settlement in Makiško polje and calling for the Belgrade Assembly session to be interrupted because they believe it is illegitimate.

They also ask the Minister of Environmental Protection to come to the session and declare on that plan.

Participants in the meeting, supporters of opposition parties, non-governmental organizations and citizens’ groups who oppose the construction of Makiško polje because they believe it will endanger the water source in Belgrade, claim that members of the security attacked them they ask the police to react.

The Belgrade City Assembly session was supposed to start at 10 o’clock.

The Center for Local Self-Government announced today that the Belgrade Urban Institute also warned that massive construction in the Makiško field would have a “possible negative impact with unknown consequences” on the city’s water supply.

The Association for the Protection of Constitutionality and Legality (UZUS) and the “Go-Change” team announced today that it is necessary to call a referendum for construction in the Makiško polje area, as well as for a possible construction in Košutnjak.

Professor Ljubiša Ignjatović from the Faculty of Physical Chemistry sent a request to the Belgrade Assembly members not to vote on Tuesday for the adoption of the Plan for the detailed regulation of Makiško polje because any construction in that area would seriously endanger the Belgrade water supply.

Today, the initiative Let’s not drown in Belgrade asked the Belgrade City Assembly and President Nikola Nikodijevic to remove from the agenda of the session, scheduled for December 29, the Draft of the Detailed Regulation Plan of the Makisko Field in the Municipality of Cukarica, and the city authorities to abandon it completely.
