In front of the Faculty of Philosophy, a protest is underway by the Koraci organization and the citizens who oppose the Stefan Nemanja monument, which is scheduled to open tonight.

The protest over the construction of the Stefan Nemanja monument is organized by the Koraci Society for Sustainable Future, which, together with several dozen citizens gathered on the plateau, is protesting, led by visual artist and writer Dejan Atanackovic.

Dejan Atanackovic

Atanackovic, art historian and activist Aida Corovic and art historian Irina Subotic addressed the audience.

Ćorović noted that “Stefan Nemanja is a monument to Aleksandar Vučić, his arrogance and arrogance.”

“What we see is not a monument to Stefan Nemanja. It is the complete opposite of what is our tradition and our culture,” Aida Ćorović told the assembled citizens, adding:

“Anyone who has entered at least one building from that period so far knows that Nemanja has never been portrayed like this.”

Ćorović pointed out that he is not against culture and tradition, but against our culture and tradition being interpreted in such a hideous way.

“This in the square is actually a monument to Aleksandar Vučić and his arrogance and arrogance,” Ćorović said.

Irina Subotic said that the monument to Stefan Nemanja is not a question of aesthetics, but a question of ethics.

“At a time when you have problems as serious as illness, when citizens are generously offered 50 euros, we are opening something whose price is unknown, and which costs at least 10 million euros. And we don’t even know why or to whom the money went. We only know that it is grand corruption. “

“This monument is not only a mockery, but also a disgrace, and I am interested in whether the church that has failed all the exams so far will say anything. He wears the uniform of a monk and holds a sword to the sky. towards God. He is neither a Jihadist nor a Templar. It’s a combination that doesn’t exist, ”Subotic said.

Those gathered do not protest the need to erect a monument to Stefan Nemanja in Belgrade, which, as they say, is justified, but they believe that such a monument is megalomaniac and symbolizes the absolutism of the current government in Serbia.

They also dispute the place where the monument was placed, in Sava Square, where the works have not yet been completed, as well as the fact that data on the price of the monument has not been revealed.

Among the puddles are the president of the New Party, Aris Movsesian, and the cartoonist Dušan Petričić.

In the other part of the city, in Plaza Sava, everything is ready for the official state ceremony, which is scheduled for 8 pm
