On September 12, the Prosecutor’s Office began an investigation into the attempted murder in front of the MaxBet betting house, the Ministry of the Interior denies that it hid the data.

The investigation into the assassination attempt that took place in front of the MaxBet betting shop in Novi Sad was conducted in an unprofessional manner.

We have to guess what is causing the unprofessional approach, lawyer Božo Prelević told Danas, commenting on the fact that the investigation of the crime committed on August 24 began on September 12, the day after the recording of the incident reached the public.

“All the elements of this crime are visible on the video. The police had to identify the perpetrator and arrest him within an hour. The border crossings are a couple of hours from Novi Sad and the police know this very well.” They had to check toll plaza recordings and closing exits, “says Prelević.

However, judging from the information available, the arrest of Ivan Kontić, suspected of first hitting the wounded MM and then breaking both of his arms, was not a priority until a video of this crime appeared on social media.

According to information obtained by N1, the Novi High Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against Ivan Kontić only on September 12, after the Ministry of the Interior filed a criminal complaint.

This response shed new light on the explanation of the police director, Vladimir Rebić, who claimed that the police, together with the prosecution, had been working on this case since 24 August.

Rebic’s excuses that the injured party initially did not want to cooperate with the police, as he only revealed the name of the perpetrator on September 2, and that the security camera images could not be taken immediately, are not too convincing. for Prelevic’s attorney.

“If it’s so difficult to look at the camera footage, how did the police manage to arrest the attacker the day after he broke into a cafe in Vracar with an automatic weapon?” It is indicative that by all accounts the suspect is a financially very powerful man. The only thing I can say responsibly is that, if there was sabotage of the investigation, Director Rebić had nothing to do with it. I know a man and I know he would not allow me something like that If there was any influence on the investigation, it came from the realm of politics, ”Prelević said, noting that the answer to the question of whether the investigation was deliberately delayed lies in investigating the connection between the owners of MaxBet and the people of politics.

A retired police inspector who did not want us to mention his name because of Danas stressed that the police had to know who the perpetrator of the crime was that same night.

“The main thing that is done in these cases is the inspection of the security cameras. This is the initial step of the investigation. The question remains whether the young man was able or wanted to speak to the police that night, but even though he did not do so, three weeks is too long a period between the crime and the start of the investigation, ”says our interlocutor.

The Novi Sad Police Administration also reported this circumstance yesterday, claiming they are malicious, claiming that the police hid this case from the prosecution.

Denying the text of the Nova S portal, the Novi Sad Police Department pointed out that the fact that the prosecution launched an investigation on September 12 does not mean that the police later informed the prosecution.

“For the sake of truth, the police informed the Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad on August 24, as soon as they received the report from the Vojvodina Clinical Center.” The said Prosecutor’s Office ordered the Police to begin to collect the necessary information on the aforementioned case, in accordance with which the Police took a statement from both the injured and several people who were at the scene that night. Of course, official notes were taken on everything and the acting prosecutor was informed, ”said the Novi Sad Police Department.

They pointed out that in the meantime the crime of attempted homicide was reclassified, so the case was transferred from primary school to the Novi Sad Superior Prosecutor’s Office, so the investigation officially began only on September 12.

Let us remind you that Ivan Kontić, a suspect in the attempted murder of the damaged MM, according to data from the Trade Records Agency, is the director of the Ju-Krijkos company, which founded the MaxBet bookmakers.

“MaxBet Group” issued a statement yesterday in which it strongly condemned the “violent act and brutal beating”, which took place on the street in the vicinity of its facility, which, they say, was not working at that time.

They expressed regret for the unfortunate event and the injuries sustained by the young man during the incident in Novi Sad.

“We refrain from any involvement in the violent act and emphasize that we have been cooperating with the competent authorities from the beginning to help resolve this situation,” MaxBet said in a statement.

Parovic: We fight for the efficiency of the police

Miroslav Parovic, leader of the Popular Liberation Movement, who shared a video of MM’s beating on social media, responded yesterday in an open letter to Police Director Vladimir Rebic and Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic, who accused him of politicizing the case. Parović said he was “shocked” by the way they unnecessarily reduced the case of the monstrous beating of a young man in Novi Sad to a classic reality show. “The fact is that the case that horrified the Serbian public was resolved in less than 48 hours from the moment I shared the viral video of the brutal fight on my social networks and thus raised the public.” It is also a fact that before citizen participation, there were no serious advances in the investigation, which was confirmed by the director of the Police. In addition to all that, starting with me and more than a thousand citizens who use social networks, no one meddled in procedural matters or took the role of the police into their own hands. “We have all achieved efficiency and transparency in their work with allowed civil pressure on institutions, and that is something that is being done in all normal European countries and societies,” Parović said, among other things.
