Since the beginning of the epidemic, the Nis Clinical Center has treated more than 4,300 patients with covid. The situation is currently the calmest in the last six months, and intensive care staff working with the most difficult cases are especially pleased with the recovery of the youngest patient on a ventilator, Predrag Nikolić from nearby Leskovac .
A 21-year-old man was admitted to the Nis Clinical Center with damaged lungs, liver and kidneys. After twenty days on the ventilator, he is still in the hospital bed, but he is getting closer to home, writes RTS.
– I’m looking forward to finally getting out of here. I heard from the doctor how dangerous it was, but now everything is great – says Predrag Nikolić.
Predrag is one of twenty patients who were on a ventilator and managed to recover, but there were also many losing battles, for doctors, not similar to previous experiences.
– They will be conscious, oriented and in a short period of time, from half an hour to an hour – says Milena Stojanović, the youngest anesthesiologist at KC Niš.
– In these situations, we did everything that depended on us, but there was no effect. I’ve never had such a sense of helplessness before, emphasizes Dr. Nada Pejčić, an anesthesiologist from Leskovac.
In intensive care, there were about 1,200 patients with kovid 19 in six months, so there were twice as many patients with patients without kovid.
– We have reached about ten patients and I am very afraid now, in the new conditions, that the number of infected people will not increase again – says Goran Milošević, intensive care coordinator.
– Now, when I listen to music from an apartment that is associated with a party or when I watch a public concert anywhere, my first thought is – now the number of patients will increase again – adds Dr. Pejčić.
Radmilo Janković, deputy director of KC Niš, says they have been well organized over the past two months.
– We will welcome the next wave in that direction. We hope to be able to shut down all kovid facilities, but I don’t think that’s realistic, Janković adds.
With many unknowns brought about by the epidemic, one thing is for sure: for kovid 19, as well as everything else, personal responsibility and prevention are the best protection.
