PODGORICA – The Parliament of Montenegro approved last night, two and a half hours after midnight, the amendments to the Law on Religious Freedom.

41 deputies from the ruling majority voted in favor of passing the law, and the opposition did not attend the session, unhappy with the amendments to the law.

Two amendments to the URA Civic Movement became an integral part of the Act, Tanjug reports.

The opposition Democratic Party of Socialists, President Milo Đukanović, previously assessed that the amendments to the Law grant privileges and a monopoly to a single religious community and a single nation.

The DPS also challenged the ruling majority quorum, because MP Maja Vukićević (DF) joined the online job, as well as the confirmation of the mandate of the new URA GP MP, Suada Zoronjić.

Zoronjic’s mandate was confirmed by the Assembly, after the State Commission refused to do so.

The Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Vladimir Leposavić, said that the discussion on the reforms to the Law lasted 365 days and that citizens almost in a referendum asked for the changes.
