Planes with tanks donated by Russia to Serbia have started landing at Batajnica airport, writes “Sputnik”, referring to unofficial sources.

The Russian Federation donated 30 T-72MS tanks to Serbia, and the first ones have already been delivered, claims “Sputnik”.

As the former Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin said, Serbia received T-72 tanks as a donation within the military-technical agreement reached between President Aleksandar Vučić and Vladimir Putin. As part of the military-technical agreement, Serbia received from Russia, in addition to these tanks, other armored vehicles, 30 BRDM-2 armored vehicles, some of which have already arrived in Serbia, adds Sputnik.

Both the tanks and the BRDMs were modernized before being handed over to the Serbian army.

Russian military expert Fyodor Boldyrev assessed that the T-72 tanks that Serbia received “have a common base from the Soviet T-72, but also a series of new components and common units of Russian production, which will facilitate their joint exploitation in Serbia.

“For the conditions in the Balkans, Serbia does not need more modern tanks, taking into account the weaknesses of the armies of neighboring countries,” Boldirjov told Sputnik.

As part of the military-technical cooperation, Serbia also acquired “Mig-29” aircraft, MI-17 and MI-35 helicopters, and “Pancir” air defense systems from Russia, adds “Sputnik”, reports Tanjug.
