A jeep exploded on Omladinskih Brigada Street near the Airport City complex in New Belgrade around noon, media reported. Strahinja Stojanović was seriously injured in this incident.
He was admitted to the resuscitation department of the Emergency Center and, according to the media, he lost both legs in the explosion of a moving car. Stojanović succumbed to injuries a little later, Belgrade media reported.
At the time of the explosion, a Colombian citizen, Sonja Suárez Gómez (45), who lived with him in an apartment in the Galenika neighborhood, was with him in the car, and this time she was slightly injured.
The media assumes that the cause of the explosion was an improvised explosive device. Police, firefighters and an ambulance arrived at the scene of the blast and traffic stopped in one lane, Tanjug reports.
On this occasion, through a written statement, Milan Stanić, head of the Police Administration of the city of Belgrade, made an announcement.
“On Omladinskih Brigada Street in New Belgrade, around 12.15 pm, a vehicle exploded while moving and injured two people. It is a passenger motor vehicle, BMW X5. Police patrols were dispatched to the scene. An investigation is ongoing. “The police officers on the ground are taking all measures and actions to find the perpetrator of this crime,” the announcement by the Serbian Interior Ministry stated.
TV N1 reported that Strahinja Stojanovic was a witness in the trial for the murder of Nikola Bojovic, Luka Bojovic’s brother. According to these allegations, Stojanović was convicted several times and was released two years ago.
According to TV N1, Stojanović is suspected of being close to the Šaranović brothers, who were killed during criminal clashes and whose family has been in conflict with Luka Bojović’s clan since 2009.
Strahinja Stojanovic’s father, Paja, was killed in 2015, when the assassins also killed him in Zemun with multiple shots. Stojanović was targeted by an attacker two years ago, when a girl from Spain was injured in a car explosion in Zemun.
