These days, workers at the “Nikola Tesla” Airport are more concerned with the question of what move their employer, the Frenchman “Vance”, will make after December 22, when, according to the concession contract, the two-year term expires. in which we should not fire anyone. So far, his hands are tied.

It tried to mitigate business losses from falling passenger numbers by offering severance payments of between 800,000 and 1 million dinars for 1,326 full-time employees. The remaining 300 hired under the contract were informed that there would be no extension of cooperation for the majority.

Vesna Vilotić, president of the union “Together” of the airport “Nikola Tesla”, explains that, when the concession began, the state granted a protection period of two years for all workers with permanent employment in which they will never be able to dismiss due to dismissal.

– We do not know what will happen in the next period. The situation is quite unfavorable. Everything is somehow undefined. We don’t know what will happen after December 22 and we are all afraid of that. The employer did not announce anything, only said that there would be a new systematization – says Vilotić for “Politika”.

He adds that they are currently negotiating a collective agreement, that is, annual leave, salaries and technological redundancies.

According to her, 280 full-time employees applied for the social program, but she does not know how many of them received severance pay. The employer primarily intended the voluntary exit program for the administration, but the employees in that sector are not too interested. Our interlocutor says that most of the people who work in operational positions have applied, and the employer needs them and it will not be easy to give them up.

When it comes to 300 workers whose contracts expire, Vilotić says they have a promise from the employer that they will keep a third party.

In “Belgrade Airport”, they say by “Politika” that they are restructuring the company through a voluntary departure program for indefinite employees who are interested in that. The program was offered after consultation with the unions.

– The response of the employees is at the expected level, considering that the packages offered are competitive and in line with good market practices – they affirm in this company.

In the case of fixed-term employees whose contracts expire at the end of the year, the contract is extended in cases where there is a clear business need in the current circumstances for a significant reduction in the volume of work and air traffic from our airport.

– We observed that the company kept all its employees for a certain period of time during the covid crisis for more than eight months, even though they were on paid vacations – they point out at the “Belgrade Airport”.

The company assures that after the restructuring, the organization of the company will be better aligned with the current needs of the business and the volume of traffic, which at the same time will allow it to react quickly and withstand possible changes in the volume of traffic. The goal is to keep the company in business and save as many jobs as possible for future post-covid growth.

Belgrade Airport has adopted a restructuring model to further reduce costs due to the drastic impact that the corona virus has had on air traffic in the last eight months and beyond.
