Predrag Lajic, former head of the Department for the Suppression of Drug Smuggling, as well as Inspector BV, also known as Boki, were arrested on suspicion of trying to conceal evidence against Veljko Belivuk during a search of his apartment.
On February 4, two policemen found Velja’s gun in the apartment, with the serial number removed, and agreed not to report it to the authorities. However, Lajić and BV were unaware that the BIA had previously probed the apartment, so they were filmed while agreeing to cover up the evidence against Belivuk.
Immediately afterwards, another team of police officers were sent to the apartment, who seized a pistol, but also a certain amount of money that was in a safe. By order of the Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office, Lajić and BV were charged with assisting the perpetrator after the crime was committed, and they were ordered to be detained for up to 48 hours. By the way, Lajic was removed from the post of head of the Drug Smuggling Suppression Department just a month and a half ago, and was taken into custody today.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stressed yesterday that the state will initiate a decisive fight for the security services to cleanse themselves of all criminal associates.
– You wonder who led these people to certain positions, who protected them … Our determination to defeat the mafia is so great that there is no lie with which they will scare us and win. There is a lot of support for the mafia from different political segments, both the government and the opposition, who are working to spread false information … A police officer cannot drive a car worth 300,000 euros, you have to investigate who paid him and why, if not, for example, some Bajrami, one of the closest associates of the drug lord Naser Kelmendi – said Vučić.
