BELGRADE – The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, attends this morning in Indjija a solemn ceremony of laying the first stone for the construction of a tire factory of the Japanese company Tojo Tires.
At first, a company representative from Japan, including Osaka, greeted the official at Indjija via video link. He said that we would not be here today without the enthusiastic support of the Government of Serbia.
Former soccer player and national team member Dragan Stojković Piksi, who has lived and worked in Japan for more than a decade, also addressed the guests.
He said he does not have to say how much that country means to him and how much is in his heart. He then greeted Tojo Tayer’s representatives in Japanese.
Let us remind you, this is one of the largest tire production companies in the world, which will build a factory in the Northeast Industrial Zone of the Municipality of India, two kilometers from the center.
Indjija Municipality President Vladimir Gak previously said that it would be the most significant investment so far in Serbia, considering the investment amount of € 367 million in the first phase, the size of the facility and the fact that Toyo Tires is owned by Mitsubishi Corporation.
The main contractor for the construction of the ship, which will cover about 20 hectares, as you said, will be the Japanese company Takenaka, but there will also be room for our builders as subcontractors.
The construction period is 17 months, after which the factory is expected to produce five million premium tires per year for the European and Russian markets.
The municipality of Indjija provided land with an area of 64 hectares and the necessary infrastructure. As previously announced, Toyota Tires should employ 537 workers at the new plant, whose wages will be above the average in Serbia. The Japanese giant was founded in 1945, with the group’s headquarters in Osaka. The group’s business activities are based on three basic branches: tires, automotive technology and chemicals. Tojo tires have been present in Europe for more than 30 years.
