The lifeless bodies of spouses Jovan (80) and Danica (83) Petrovic were found on Monday in their apartment in the Vozdovac neighborhood of Belgrade. They had no children or help at home, and the residents of the high-rise building on Jove Ilića Street did not see them for almost two weeks.
As we learned, there were no traces of violence on the bodies that were removed from the apartment shortly before noon.
The assumption is that Jovan, who had heart problems, became ill and passed away, and that Danica later died of hunger and neglect. She, as the neighbors say, was crazy. She didn’t go anywhere and Jovan took care of her. The investigation, that is, the autopsy, will show how exactly the spouses died and how long they were in the apartment.
– Two weeks ago, I met Jovan at the market and asked him how Dana was doing. He told me: “It’s not right, Ljubica, it’s not right” – says a neighbor from the other entrance, who has known them for years. – Dana was crazy and had a problem with her hips. For years, he took her for a walk, first under his arm and then with a cane. He hasn’t been out of the house lately. He took care of her, went shopping. I have never met better, more attached people.
Their acquaintance says that they have lived in this apartment since they returned from France, where he worked as a tailor, and that they were originally from Sabac. They had no children, no elderly housewife to help them at home and ease their old age. They also had relatives who came occasionally.
LEFT ALONE
Although the multi-story building is full of life, a family with children, the neighbors did not even realize that Jovan Petrović was not walking or in the store. It seems that he rarely entered the basement apartment. They had no one to help them. It was as if family and friends had forgotten them.
