In Serbia, people under 19 years of age are the most resistant to the coronavirus, it is the result of a national seroprevalence study that showed that before the third peak of the epidemic, 20.7 percent of the population of our country acquired immunity to the coronavirus.

These are two studies carried out by the Institute of Epidemiology of the Belgrade Faculty of Medicine, in cooperation with other institutes: the first from May 15 to June 25, which had 1,000 respondents and the second with 1,500 respondents, which lasted up to October 28.

In the first study, the population infection rate was 6.4 percent nationwide, and in the second it was 20.7 percent, the director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Tatjana Pekmezovic, told Tanjug.

The study, he says, showed that the most infected population, 23 percent, is in Šumadija and western Serbia.

Pekmezovic said that in the first study, there was significantly more seropositivity in men, while the second study showed that acquired immunity to the coronavirus is about the same in men (20.6 percent) and women (20.8 percent). .

The second study, he says, confirmed the finding of the first that people under the age of 19 had the highest seroprevalence.

The Institute of Statistics of the Belgrade Faculty of Medicine, the Nuclear Energy Application Institute, the Serbian Institute of Public Health “Dr. Milan Jovanović Batut”, as well as the regional institutes and institutes of public health also cooperated in the study.
