Guardian of the faith in the Serbs: Patriarch Irinej

After the morning manifestation of symptoms and signs of worsening chronic heart failure and the treatment measures applied, the Serbian Orthodox Church announced that the state of health of His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch, Mr. Irinej, was in the process of stabilization.

The medical council of the Karaburma Military Hospital, where the patriarch was treated for the corona virus infection, monitors the vital parameters of his sanctity hour by hour, it is stated in the statement signed by the commander of this institution, Colonel Doc. Dr. Ivo Udovicic. The treatment of Patriarch Irinej is carried out according to the protocol for patients with crown, with conciliatory measures taken for the treatment of the accompanying chronic diseases. An additional risk is the fact that His Holiness is 90 years old.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić wanted Patriarch Irinej to defeat the disease.

“Your Holiness, our entire nation is with you. Serbia and the Serbian people have never needed you more. We pray to God for your health and successful recovery. Endure and conquer the cruel disease,” said Vučić.

The Government of Serbia has limited the work of the catering facilities, but also of shops, shopping centers, except for pharmacies, delivery and food stores, the economy that works the third shift and gas stations.

At the level of the whole of Serbia, the situation with the corona virus is very serious and alarming, said Secretary of State in the Ministry of Health, Mirsad Đerlek. He pointed out that health capacities are not unlimited, so he once again called on citizens to be responsible and respect the measures prescribed for the fight against the crown.

Djerlek said that the situation in Belgrade is especially difficult and that an increase in the number of patients is expected every day. He noted that the Ministry of Health will do everything possible to provide maximum medical care to all patients with crown disease, and stated that the state, the corresponding ministry and the Crisis Personnel have done a lot for that goal, but that it is It is important that citizens show measures of responsibility and respect.

– When crisis personnel introduced drastic measures such as a state of emergency and curfew, we had a major revolt that it was a violation of democracy and human rights, and when we act with more leniency, we are again under fire from critics – said Djerlek.

No more time

He explained that it is not only important to adopt new measures, but also to consistently implement existing ones, adding that we must focus on tighter control of implementation.

A member of the crisis staff, epidemiologist Dr. Predrag Kon, stated that the medical part of the staff proposed new measures to prevent further spread of the coronavirus. Kon also warned that everyone should give their contribution to curb the spread of the corona virus.

– The only thing the State can do is realize that there is no more time. The only thing anyone can do is avoid infection. And the health workers have to endure. We have to stop the virus – said Kon.

Tighter control

Deputy Mayor Goran Vesić said that the control of the catering facilities continues, in order to stop unscrupulous catering companies, which are a minority.

Until now, the control was carried out only by sanitary inspectors, 140 of them in Serbia, or only 12 in Belgrade. By changing the law, Vesić recalled, now between 400 and 500 inspectors will work. He also announced that the control of the use of masks in public transport will be strengthened.

Infected and children

In Serbia, 3,693 patients were hospitalized due to corona virus infection and 163 people use respirators. The worst is in Belgrade.

Crisis personnel from the Indjija Municipality have made the decision to declare a state of emergency. In addition to limiting the meeting and working hours of catering facilities, regular disinfection of entrances and elevators is mandatory.

In the Rasina district, two more victims of the coronavirus virus have been registered, representing a total of 63 deaths since the beginning of the epidemic. 72 patients were hospitalized. There are 40 infected students, in addition to 12 teachers.

The Šabac hospital is treating 91 patients with a moderate clinical picture, seven are in the respiratory unit and more and more children are infected. Two children were diagnosed with pneumonia.

The Novi Pazar regional center received two patients from that city and one from Raska.

In Vranje hospital, 51 patients are being treated for pneumonia caused by the corona virus, and there are 28 of them with oxygen. The city headquarters announced that 128 more free beds remained.

There are more than 300 actively ill people in Loznica and 65 people are hospitalized. A psychiatric ward was opened for the infected in order to get another 20 beds.

A state of emergency has been declared in Krupanj, Ljubovija and Mali Zvornik.

Stroke and infection

As the number of patients increases, the number of hospital vacancies decreases. More and more health institutions receive the infected. For the first time, a part of the “St. Sava” hospital entered the anti-crown system.

The second floor of this hospital has become a red zone with 30 patients and so many free beds.

Hospital director Mariana Vukićević says they received 10 patients the first night in the new regime, three of them with a crown.

– In the red zone of the hospital, it is planned to treat only stroke patients who are also infected by the corona virus. So we made two parallel systems. One for infected patients and one for others. Treating people infected with a stroke is no different, says Dr. Mariana Vukićević.

He points out that the hospital building is not very architecturally suitable for such a separation, but that they managed to completely isolate the second floor with barriers, so that the virus cannot enter other parts of the hospital.

New doctors are helping

Infected people are also admitted to the Institute of Occupational Medicine and the Institute of Rheumatology in Belgrade, as well as the Selters and Koviljača spas.

The Institute of Rheumatology is filling up fast. Dr. Goran Radunović, director of the Institute, says 86 infected patients were treated. The youngest is 24 years old and the oldest 94 years old.

According to him, some of the rheumatology patients are now in that institution, and the rest should seek help from the rheumatology department of MMA and from secondary health care throughout Serbia.

– The influx of patients is higher than last spring, but the staff is now more prepared and we have five new doctors who are hired in the meantime. If we get help from outside, we will be able to expand our capacities by 10 to 20 percent – Radunović said, adding that the hospital has enough medicines, equipment and consultants from the Infectious Diseases Clinic.

Think of the weak and the old

Epidemiologist and crisis staff member Dr. Branislav Tiodorović says that an increase in the number of patients in Serbia can be expected next week, but that after that a gradual decrease could occur, which will depend on the behavior of the population. .

– The biggest problem remains that of those who ignore the calls of doctors, go to parties, go out at night, certainly without respecting the measures where masks are not used or physical distance is maintained – says Tiodorović.

He pointed out that the largest number of infected people is definitely in Belgrade, and that the reason is clubbing, going out, socializing.

– These are the main access points. If someone thinks of health workers, their loved ones, the union is paid by the elderly, if the young person is not harmed by the virus, he can do it to someone older. We do not say this because we want to criticize someone, we understand everything and the need of young people, but at least think a little about how much you can harm others if you are a carrier of the virus – explains Professor Tiodorović.
