Patriarch Irinej was infected with the corona virus and was admitted to a special kovid hospital in Belgrade, the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) announced tonight.

“As part of the regular testing procedure, and after epidemiological evaluation, a PCR test was performed on the SARS COV2, which confirmed that His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Mr. Irinej was positive with no symptoms and in excellent general condition. His Holiness he was hospitalized at the COVID Hospital in Belgrade. ” it is stated in the announcement of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

On Sunday, November 1, Patriarch Irinej attended the funeral of Metropolitan Amfilohije in the crypt of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica.

He received the Ambassador of Hungary, Attila Pinter, today at the Patriarchate of Belgrade. On that occasion, Ambassador Pinter presented the Patriarch with a letter of condolences from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the occasion of the death of Metropolitan Amfilohije de Montenegro y el Litoral.
