According to prosecutor Marcel Saldivar, the container left Serbia on July 21 and arrived earlier this week, via Argentina, at the Rhine port outside Asunción, the Paraguayan capital, Reuters reports.

The bodies were discovered today, when the managers of the company that bought the product opened the container, added Saldívar.

He added that all the victims were adults and appeared to be “blind passengers.”

Saldívar said that Paraguayan authorities will contact colleagues in Serbia to identify the victims.

He said they found personal documents with two people, proving they were Moroccans, adding that the account of a Serbian taxi company was found, indicating that they entered a container in Serbia.

“We assume they came from their country and planned to travel to the nearest destination, but they did not calculate the distance well and did not survive the trip,” Saldívar told Reuters.

He added that they carried cakes, flamed water, and cans of food, which was enough for 72 hours.

Police also found bags with a detachment and a ventilation opening in the part of the container where the bodies were.

“All the bodies are in the disintegration phase. It’s just hair and bones,” Saldivar said.

He added that the route of the container would be reviewed, as well as that mobile phones would be examined, which were found along with the bodies.
