He said that doctors are not yet in a situation where they cannot help the patient at all, because “if nothing else”, they can transfer him to another institution.

“There is a team in Kraljevo, but now we are already in a situation where there is no one to work with,” said Panic.

He recalled that restrictive measures in Serbia were abolished “almost in one fell swoop”, contrary to the worldwide experience that after the state of emergency, restrictive measures should be gradually abolished, one by one, with careful monitoring of the effects.

Panic also said that he is under the impression that two temporary hospitals are not being opened to expand capacities, but to get rid of other hospitals “and put all the patients there.”

According to Panic, this will allow the authorities to establish full control over the information and centralize the data, “because Predrag Kon was also unaware of the actual Belgrade data.”

He thinks that the rest of the medical part of the Crisis Staff does not have “real” numbers, and adds that the state “does everything” to have control over what “will go” to the public and what will not.

His assumption is that patients will be transferred to Batajnica as soon as the hospital opens there, and that the closure of covid units in Serbia will begin so that staff can withdraw to Batajnica.

Commenting on the lack of medical personnel, Panic recalled that Serbia had a “12 to 15 percent shortage” of health workers before the pandemic.

“Between 2,300 and 2,600 doctors from the National Employment Service, in theory, should have been hired immediately just to complete the number determined by law.” “Everything that exists of the doctor had to be employed,” said Panic explicitly.

Then, he added, we get to the “structure” of those doctors, that is, do they have a specialization and what kind, “and who can and what can do.”

He stressed that the big problem is that currently, according to official data, there are 10% of health workers infected in Serbia, while he believes that the “real” number is obtained if that number is multiplied by “two, and perhaps even three. “.

At the same time, he warned, specialists in physical medicine, ophthalmologists and otolaryngologists work in the Belgrade Arena.

He said he and his colleagues are already in a situation where they are considering the possibility that “infected health workers who do not have a pronounced clinical picture stay to work.”

Panic explained what the closest scenario to Serbia is, saying that medical workers “will soon be able to sleep in the hospital” because they will not have time to go home when they need them.

“It is faster for them to wake up while we are in the hospital than to fly away from home,” concluded Panic.
