The trial of Zoran Marjanovic, accused of the murder of his wife Jelena on April 2, 2016, on the Borca embankment, is due to continue today before the High Court of Belgrade.
However, Zoran Marjanović did not appear before the High Court today and only his defense lawyers arrived at the Palace of Justice.
As we learned, he did not come because he was in pain.
He denies the murder
At the beginning of the trial in November last year, Zoran Marjanović presented his defense in detail, denying that he had killed his wife, a folk singer.
He is charged with the crime of aggravated homicide, for which he faces up to 40 years in prison and defends himself in freedom.
The prosecution accuses him of having killed his wife Jelena on the Borča embankment on April 2, 2016, while their youngest daughter, who accompanied them to the Crvenka embankment in Borča that afternoon, was in the immediate vicinity of the scene of the crime.
In the spring, the court returned full custody of the child to Marjanović, who was taken from him after the death of his wife.
The most followed case of the black chronicle in Serbia
He has been defending himself since June 12, 2018, since the Court of Appeals lifted his detention that day, in which he spent 10 months. He was arrested on September 15, 2017, a year and a half since the murder.
He had been detained before that, but after being questioned by the police and on a polygraph, he was released for lack of evidence.
Before his arrest, he spoke about the murder in the media on several occasions and participated in a reality television show.
The murder of Jelena Marjanović is the most followed case of the black chronicle in Serbia in the media for almost four years.
