The believers of the Serbian Orthodox Church today celebrate the Holy Apostle Thomas, the baptismal feast of a large number of believers around the world.

Tomindan or celebration of the Holy Apostle Tomi is one of the first autumn celebrations among the believers of the Serbian Orthodox Church. If Tomndan falls on a greasy day, like today Monday, the table is necessarily greasy for Serbs around the world.

Do you celebrate the Holy Apostle Thomas?

The Serbs say of Saint Thomas that when the saints shared roles, he took the seal of the clouds, but it does not bring storm, but precious rain. It is believed that the Holy Apostle Thomas, if he gets angry, may one day bring a great flood, but as he is supervised by the Blessed Mother of God, it will not be soon.

Tomindan is celebrated as a baptismal holiday, and the dungeons and carpenters celebrate it most often as a guild glory, so they don’t do anything on that day. Saint Thomas was a skilled carpenter, so he never broke a tree on a stump, but on a stone. According to legend, once he met the devil in the form of a beautiful, wavy girl, he began to tempt him. Toma stared at her, struck the stone with his sword and detuned the ax. According to the church books, the saint got very angry, caused heavy rain and drowned the devil in the bar.

According to the number of candlesticks, Tomindan ranks twelfth in glory among Serbs. Tomindan is a day dedicated to the Holy Apostle Thomas. This Apostle is also called “Unfaithful Thomas”, because he did not believe in the Resurrection of the Lord, so Jesus Christ appeared again to the disciples, and Tommy turned specifically to reach out and touch her rib so that he would never be unfaithful to her again.

Toma was not only unfaithful, but also struggled with time. It is written that the only one of the Apostles was late to the funeral of the Blessed Mother of God, so the tomb was opened at his insistence. Then it was seen that his tomb was empty, that the Mother of God had ascended to heaven, and that only the Holy Shroud remained in the tomb, which was later transferred to the church in Constantinople.

In some parts, Saint Thomas is believed to protect believers from wolves.

There is also an old Serbian saying “Saint Thomas, sit at home”.

It implies that on this day you are not going anywhere except to church and that is the most important custom to be respected on this day.
