Christmas Day starts early and lasts until late. In the morning, before dawn, the host goes to the forest for Christmas Eve, which is brought home only at first darkness, with straw.
Christmas Eve has its origin in the miraculous night of Bethlehem, when the shepherds cut and brought branches to light a fire with the Newborn and his Mother. And the straw that is brought home with a dogwood stick recalls the night the son of God was born, and when he was laid in a manger on straw.
People inherited these customs from their ancestors and still maintain them. So tonight, Christmas Eve is placed in the home, sprinkled with grain, honey and wine, along with ritual actions that should ensure the health and progress of the whole house and family.
In city conditions, safely, only a few leaves are burned.
On Christmas Eve, one does not sleep, but looks and waits for the solemn moment of the Nativity of Christ. Christmas Eve is a night of peace and joy waiting.
According to the usual schedule, nothing is being taken out of the house today.
Anyone who has had an argument with someone during the year must reconcile on Christmas Day, to spend Christ’s birthday in peace and love. Thus, it is remembered that forgiveness is a gift from God and one of the most difficult Christian virtues.
