The departure of children to school is a turning point for the epidemiological situation. The good indicators so far can change quickly if the measures and recommendations are not followed. Immunologist Dr. Srdja Jankovic says for RTS that there should be no relaxation and that only rigorous implementation of all current measures can keep the numbers acceptably low.

Visiting the Jutarnji program, the immunologist Srđa Janković says that the important moment is that on Monday there were only 41 new infected, seven of them in Belgrade, but we had a favorable situation in May and without going to school, which unexpectedly became in a further increase in the number of patients.

Dr. Janković says there is no relaxation. He adds that the fact that the numbers are now falling is good, but only the rigorous application of all the measures in force can keep the numbers acceptably low.

On Monday an extraordinary session of the Crisis Staff was held, after which letters were sent to all the mayors and presidents of the municipalities, reminding them that they are obliged to ensure respect for all epidemiological measures in their territory.

This is especially true for the organizers of various events across the country. A Contact Center has been opened through which citizens can report non-compliance with the measures.

“Sanctions and penalties are always unpopular and I would say they will never be necessary, but we are witnessing that measures are not respected everywhere. The vast majority of citizens conscientiously respect measures. However, it is never universal, there are examples of violations, “Jankovic said. .

According to him, society must defend itself in some way.

“The essence is the distance and the masks. Now the children are separated in the classrooms, the classes are divided to have fewer children in the classroom and sit one by one on the bench. The mask should be worn except during classes when the The child is in their place and does not come, approach other children and when the child does not respond, that is, does not speak out loud, sings and things like that, ”explains Dr. Srdja Janković.

During big parties, children should be prevented from coming into close contact en masse.

“There are no legal requirements for children who come from abroad to go to school in ten days, but parents who do will do well. Everyone has the opportunity for children to attend classes online if parents do not know. they feel safe to let the child go to school. ” Jankovic says.

It emphasizes that if everything possible is done to minimize risk, it is good for children to attend school because this pandemic will not last for a short time. It is unacceptable to compromise the safety of children and that is why these measures are in effect.

If the virus appears in the school, we must implement everything that we would normally do on the computer, from disinfection measures, contact detection, isolation and self-isolation.

Celebrations are a human need, but health protection must be given a place.

“Celebrations are a human need, but a need that must give way to the need to protect health. If we allow gatherings of more than 30 people, if we allow a part of the population to understand that there is no epidemic, and on the other hand do everything right, there may be an increase, “says Jankovic.

He says that organizing the celebrations is a great challenge because the pandemic will be with us for a while.

Everything we organize must be in full awareness of how to protect ourselves and others.

At the moment, it is possible to organize a small wedding with the presence of up to 30 people inside with the obligation to keep their distance.

“It is difficult to tell grandparents and grandchildren not to come into contact. If a covid appears in a school, it is clear that the children of that school will be in self-isolation during the incubation period. We have to balance ourselves, make life possible, but do it. . with minimal risk, “says immunologist Srđa Janković.
