Now the most threatened people are people aged 50 to 70

[ad_1]

The number of covid patients requiring intensive treatment and oxygen support is increasing, and 13 of them are already on a ventilator at the Nis Clinical Center. While at the peak of the first wave, in March and April, we had mainly patients aged 50 to 70 years, even older, and many of them with chronic diseases, and in the second, in July, many young people, now we have the majority of patients aged 50 to 70 years. years that do not have significant comorbidities, that is, associated diseases. The youngest patient on mechanical ventilation is from Nis and is 46 years old.

The healthy ones ended up on the respirator because of the corona, and that’s the characteristic of this third wave / peak?

– Yes, that is correct. They were mostly healthy before the crown. These are middle-aged to older people, 50 to 70 years old, and most of them are from the extreme south, from Vranje, Presevo and Bujanovac. Up to 90 percent of them, both on the ventilator and in the intensive care unit, have this age structure. I don’t think they were directly infected, but rather that they are younger carriers and that these people get more seriously ill.

So young people are super transmitters?

– Currently they are the main problem in the country. They spread the virus. And its movement, in the afternoon, at night. I’m not talking about schools, not even universities, but what the young virus brings after the evening meetings.

Does the crown still destroy the whole organism?

– There is no evidence that the clinical picture of the patient in the intensive care unit is different from that of the two previous peaks. It is a classic image of a systemic disease that begins as a lung disease and takes patients to the doctor precisely because of shortness of breath. But then it develops as a systemic disease that attacks the kidneys, liver, and other vital organs. Finally, death never occurs only from lung failure, but also from the systemic nature of the disease.

Do you still have patients on a dialysis ventilator?

– Two are already on dialysis, which means their kidneys have failed.

This is just the beginning of the third wave. When do you expect the greatest rush?

– I am surprised that the number of infected, not only in Nis but in the entire southeast of Serbia, is not as great as in March and April, and even in July and August. In March and April we had the largest number of patients from Nis, and in July and August from other places in southern Serbia, from Kosovsko Pomoravlje, Vranje, Presevo, Bujanovac …

Are you saying that southern Serbia has acquired herd immunity or is it just behind Belgrade and Vojvodina, as Professor Tiodorović claims?

– I think it’s only late and that this wave will definitely get to us too. At the moment, we are more than stable. We have 90 covid patients, our occupation is a little more than 30 percent because there are currently 240 places ready. Intensive care is a bit more crowded, 35-40 percent. If there is a lot of rush and a big hit, we can release five times more capacity. The problem with us is that we have to be a red and green hospital and that there is no other great tertiary institution that is a green hospital. So, we receive severe covid cases, as well as all the others, that is, those with multiple trauma, which are for difficult operations … Our problem is that in the capacities we have, which are 1,530 beds, we place both “green” and “red”, and mothers and children.

If KC Nis has 1,530 beds, it means that someone has to suffer. WHO?

– We managed to organize ourselves as a green and red hospital. As of yesterday, we have switched back to another mode of operation: emergencies only. But that means cancer surgery works – cancers don’t wait for surgery, radiation, consultations, or chemotherapy. Dialysis goes smoothly. We have separate “green” and “red” radiology, so the magnet, the scanner, and everything else are divided. However, 20 anesthesiologists in intensive care have not been on the operative program since yesterday.

So who is waiting?

– They are waiting, let’s say, gallbladder surgeries, hernias, all those that can be delayed.

And when do you expect the peak of this third wave?

– At the moment, it does not seem that we will reach March and April. But, if the number increases everywhere in Serbia, it will also merge here. Based on these numbers, we certainly won’t be full for another week.

Twice negative

She gave birth with pneumonia

Do you have a pregnant woman? – We had a pregnant woman with pneumonia, who was negative twice. She gave birth last week, the delivery went well and the baby and mom are still with us.

How many patients are negative in the test and have all the characteristics of a crown? About 90 percent of them are positive in the test and 10 percent are negative.

How many children have a crown? – Six, everyone has a soft image and there are no babies.

Do you have entire families in treatment? – We have marital partners staying in the same rooms, and we still do not have patients from the same family on the ventilator.

Kovid hospital again

Chair for people with a clearer clinical picture

A temporary hospital is reopened in Silla. – Given that an increase in the number of covid patients is expected, and it is certain that not everyone will have a severe clinical picture, it is logical that Chair accepts lighter patients so that we are relieved in that sense and treat those with moderate or severe clinical picture, such as and those with other diseases.

Patients from everywhere and from Novi Pazar

Do you have patients outside of southern Serbia? – Now we have Novi Pazar. Where do they come from in Nis? – They called us and asked to receive them, they want them to treat them with us because, as they say, we are very good. Our capacities were not full and we gladly fulfilled them.
