The hotel occupancy in the mountains is more than 50 percent, and it is mostly domestic guests, as a large number of interested foreign tourists canceled their arrival due to quarantine and other measures prescribed in their countries says the director of the Business Association of the Hotel Industry (HORES) Georgi Genov. and adds that the occupancy of urban hotels will not exceed five percent.

The hotel capacities in the mountain resorts are prepared for the winter season, which is already underway, and more tourists are expected after the New Year, Genov told Tanjug, emphasizing that so far guests are mainly interested in high class hotels.

According to him, 92 hotels have been certified in mountain resorts – Kopaonik, Zlatibor, Divčibare, Stara Planina te. These guests can rest assured when it comes to covid protection measures. Remember that there are barriers at the entrance of the hotels, the check-in is without contact through the application on the mobile phone, and the hotel guests are attended by the staff respecting the prescribed epidemiological measures, the table is located at a prescribed distance of two meters.

“We hope that the winter season will be completed successfully in terms of service in hotels and discipline is also needed from the guests who must behave in the spirit of this situation,” emphasizes Genov.

It points out that the arrival of foreign tourists was announced mainly in the mountainous centers of Kopaonik and Stara Planina, in Hungary, Poland, Turkey, Greece, while a large number of interested parties canceled their arrival due to the quarantine and other measures prescribed in their countries.

He points out that city hoteliers are in an even more difficult situation in relation to mountain resorts, and recalls that January and February are “dead” months when traditionally occupancy in city hotels is as low as 20 %.

“Currently, the situation is worrying, although it is expected that during the holidays, the occupancy of urban hotels does not exceed five percent, which is 95 percent less than the previous year,” says Genov.

He emphasizes that without additional help from the state, many hoteliers will have to reconsider their business, adding that they have “survived” so far with the help of the state.
