“No matter it is a car accident, IT IS A KILLER TO US” The families of the victims are disappointed with the maximum penalty for the RICH DRIVER “DEATH HEARING”

“Eight years is very little, he should be tried for murder because he killed two people who normally walk on the sidewalk. No matter what car accident it is, he is a murderer to us.”

With these words, Ljiljana Kostadinović, the grandmother of the boy Andrej Prenkljušaj (12), who was killed on January 4 with passerby Dejan Ilić (48) from Niš when Nemanja Stamenković (19) from Belgrade cut them off with an “Audi”, reacted to the news of the accusation against an arrogant driver for which the Public Ministry of Base requested a maximum penalty of eight years in prison.

Ljiljana says that her grandson and the other dead pedestrians were not involved in the traffic, and that is why the driver should not be tried for a traffic offense, for which a maximum of eight years can be sentenced, but for murder.

– The maximum penalty for this traffic offense is eight years in prison according to the law. What about the fact that he killed two people who were not involved in trafficking? They were usually on the boardwalk, where children ride bikes and people walk. My opinion is that he should be charged with murder. I am absolutely convinced, like my daughter, who cannot recover from that day, that he is a murderer. With the speed at which he was driving, he had to be aware of what he was doing and what kinds of possessions could occur, says Ljiljana.

The family of the late Dejan Ilić, who was the commissioner of the “Sloga” union and the father of three children, the youngest of whom is six years old, also believes that the maximum penalty to which a driver can be sentenced is too small and that the law should be changed.

– We are horrified that a double homicide for violent driving in which a child died, as well as my father, can be punished with a maximum penalty of eight years. Here not only were two lives taken, but families were completely destroyed. I speak for myself and cannot even imagine what it is like for a mother who lost a child. This type of violent murder in traffic should be treated much more strictly by law. He will be released in just eight years and will continue his life normally, and two lives are in the grave. This case should be an example for anyone who sits on the train, to think twice about how he will drive through the city before stepping on the accelerator and when he will jeopardize everything. Because that way he not only endangers himself, but also others, says Gabrijela Ilić, the daughter of the late Dejan.

She says she hopes this tragedy will initiate changes in the law to bring stricter punishments.

– That cannot affect our case, but at least some kind of different law should be passed for such crimes. Obviously, we are surrounded by various bad examples, and then those children sit behind the wheel, not understanding what consequences can arise from such an arrogant trip and how many lives can be ruined. There could have been 50 people on the ride that night, if the weather had been nice, if it hadn’t rained. It is fortunate that many more people were not found in the accident because there would be a massacre. Even if 50 people were killed, the maximum penalty would again be eight years, which is not normal – says Gabriela.

The prosecution seeks a maximum of eight years

The Basic Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Nemanja Stamenković (19) from Belgrade and requested the maximum penalty for the defendant who is accused of causing a serious traffic accident in which he died while driving an Audi on Medijana Boulevard in Niš on January 4. this year, pedestrians Andrej Prenkljušaj (12) and Dejan Ilić (48).

– The Prosecutor’s Office filed an accusation on the suspicion that a serious act was committed against the safety of public traffic. The Basic Public Ministry proposed that the accused be sentenced to a maximum of eight years in prison and that he be prohibited from driving for five years. The prosecution also proposed to extend the custody of the defendants, which will be decided by the court – said the spokesman for the basic prosecution Ivan Markovic to “Blic”.

As “Blic” wrote, on January 4 around 8:40 pm a serious accident occurred on Mediana Boulevard near the turnoff to Nis Waterworks, when an “Audi” driven by Stamenković ran off the road and collided with pedestrians in the sidewalk. The body of little Andrej, due to the force of the impact, flew over the two-meter-high fence of the treatment plant, while Ilić, who was walking with a friend, was thrown dozens of meters further on the road. Andrej died on the spot, while Ilić succumbed to his injuries an hour later at the Niš Emergency Center. At the hearing at the prosecutor’s office after the accident, Stamenković defended himself by keeping silent.
