Tonight, Health Minister Zlatibor Lončar spoke about the acquisition of equipment for hospitals in Serbia, the reconstruction of health institutions, respect for the measures implemented in the fight against coronavirus, but also a meeting with doctors from the “United Against Covid” association.
He said that he was at the Emergency Center every morning to get a complete picture of the epidemiological situation in Serbia.
– I have a report from all the institutions in Serbia about what happened the night before: how many patients there were, how many operations, how many transports and the like. People come to whom I listen, who have their problems. Not a day goes by that I don’t go to the Emergency Center. That is the basis for you to have an overview of the situation in the ministry I lead. It is difficult to manage this department differently, it is not possible to go to Nemanjina and wait for the department to run itself. You have to listen to the patients, talk to the patients in the operating room, and then visit the operated patients. Collect all of that data and then create a picture of what everything looks like. There is no portfolio, reverence and they take you to the ministry – Loncar said for “Kurir TV”.
New equipment for hospitals arrives
According to him, much work is being done to rebuild health institutions and to acquire the necessary medical equipment so that “we are prepared to receive a new wave of coronavirus.”
– In the shortest possible time, we will acquire 10 to 12 scanners. I think the acquisitions for hospitals in Serbia will be announced next week. This is very important to all citizens of our country. We will try to make the x-ray machines as prepared as possible. On the other hand, I expect the rebuilding of KCS to be completed in less than a year. I visited the works a day or two ago, now it looks great. The hospital started in the seventies and will now be one of the best hospitals in Serbia and beyond – said the minister.
After KCS, renovation of centers in Novi Sad and Kragujevac
According to him, the clinical centers in Novi Sad, and later in Kragujevac, will also be renovated.
– Hospitals, clinics, teams, ambulances renovated in parallel. It’s something that hasn’t been done in decades. Thanks to that, we have such results with the crown. I regret that people quickly forget that no investment was made before the arrival of this government. You had bathrooms that didn’t have doors, not to mention that windows couldn’t be closed in Belgrade’s elite hospitals. We did not have bathrooms, we had insulation, in addition, we had to bring heaters to the rooms, we had to warm people – he added.
On the meeting with the signatories of the petition “United against kovid”
Loncar also referred to the meeting with the signatories of the petition “United against Kovid”, which took place a few days ago.
– They are doctors as I am a doctor. It is best to talk to each other, there is no problem that cannot be solved by talking. The agreement is to get evidence for those people who claim to have been fired, the plan is to find a solution that this is so, and then we will go on to analyze from Monday – the minister stressed.
We miss anesthesiologists, radiologists, pediatricians and surgeons
He added that many young doctors have been recruited in recent months.
– We cannot specialize young people if we have a surplus in that area. We have, say, more than 30 percent endocrinologists at KSC, and most of the students want to be endocrinologists. Sometimes we won’t be able to meet everyone. We need anesthesiologists, radiologists, some pediatricians, surgeons. If there was a salary increase anywhere, it was in medical care and it will continue with that – Lončar said and admitted that he is missing surgery and the Emergency Center.
He does not hide, he says, that he has sinned in the last four years.
– Only if you do nothing, you can’t go wrong. I was wrong with the selection of staff and a few other things. When you give someone a function, only then do you see what it is like, but there are bugs that need to be fixed. It is important to notice mistakes in time and then correct them as soon as possible.
There was no adequate response in Novi Pazar
When asked what the situation is in Novi Pazar, he explains that there was a serious lack of respect for all measures and, therefore, a large number of new infections in a short period.
– Did you react appropriately? Not really, I admit it. But we sent people from Kragujevac and elsewhere, additional equipment, and brought everything under control. Everything else that happened was politics. Politics must remain in front of the door of the hospital – emphasized the minister.
