Retired virologist Dr. Ana Gligić says this for Sputnik, speaking of mutations in the corona virus due to the newly confirmed strain in England, which officials say is spreading 70 percent faster than others.

According to her, a new variant of the coronavirus appeared in Serbia at the end of July, but no one showed it. Gligić believes that this mutation originates from Spain, as well as the new crown strain in Britain, which is rumored in the world media.

-This new variant of the virus, which has been isolated in Great Britain, has 17 mutations that have been fixed and are located in the S gene of the new coronavirus. All of these mutations are present among some other isolates, but all mutations have never been observed to be present in a single isolate. It is as if there had been an accumulation of some mutations that have changed the characteristics of the virus in terms of its faster transmission, and for that reason, until now the degree of caution has been increased to spread this new variant of the virus. For now, nothing else is known, it is not known whether the virus is more virulent, that is, whether it will cause more severe clinical forms of the disease, says Jovanović.
