The minimum wage, which today stands at around 30,000 dinars, could be higher by 2,000 dinars from next year. Nearly 350,000 workers, as many as they work in Serbia for a minimum, would earn 32,000 dinars a month next year.
President Aleksandar Vučić announced an increase in the minimum wage by about 2,000 dinars, which is about 7 percent, and official information on the exact increase will be announced today. The negotiating parties – the unions, the businessmen and the government – will discuss only that point today at the Palace of Serbia, and after the meeting, the information will be officially released at the press conference.
Let us remind you that during the negotiations, the unions repeatedly said that they would not accept a minimum below 34,000 dinars. At the same time, his position is that the minimum price of labor must follow the amount of the minimum consumption basket, which is around 37,000 dinars.
On the other hand, the representatives of the Employers’ Union believe that the economy does not meet the conditions to increase the minimum by more than four to six percent. They assert that if the increase were beyond the real, they would have to seek compensation for that difference, from the point of view of reducing costs for the State.
Growth from 6 to 11.1 percent
The minimum is determined by the hours of work without taxes and contributions for the calendar year no later than September 15 of the current year, and applies as of January 1 of the following year.
Since 2010, the state has increased the minimum eight times. It did not accept the union’s demands for an increase in the lowest guaranteed wage in the country in 2014 and 2016. The minimum wage was increased by 11.1 percent (from 27,000 to 30,000 dinars) from January 1 of this year, while in 2019 it increased by 10 percent.
Finance Minister Sinisa Mali, Labor Minister Zoran Djordjevic, SES President, UGS “Nezavisnost” President Zoran Stojiljkovic, President of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Serbia Ljubisav Orbovic and President of the Employers’ Union of Serbia Milos Nenezic will address the public at a press conference today.
