As the Serbian Corridors and the Ministry of Infrastructure remain silent on the reasons for another repair of the route through the Grdelica Gorge, experts explain:

While the authorities are silent on the reasons for the new repairs to the newly built road in the Grdelica gorge, the expert public claims that the erosive soil is responsible for the damage and that it was not necessary to build that road on that route .

According to the “Juzne vesti” portal, less than a year and a half have passed since the opening of the southern branch of Corridor 10, and the section from the Predejana circuit to Momin kamen near Vladicin Han in the Grdelica gorge has been closed to traffic due to works. A layer of asphalt has been removed and the road is being paved again.

This is the second time since the opening that the road has been repaired on that section of the road.

Yesterday we tried to find out at the Ministry of Construction why a layer of asphalt was removed, if there was a problem in its quality or in the substrate, but they instructed us to find out through the Corridors of Serbia company.

We did, but we did not receive that information until the conclusion of this issue of our newspaper.

According to Goran Rodić, vice president of the Serbian Chamber of Construction, the problem on that road is due to the fact that it was built on erosive soil.

– As soon as more rain falls, considering the nature of that soil, road damage occurs due to erosion. This leads to serious problems and requires repair of the damage caused. That is exactly what is happening right now. The fact is that there was no need to build a road on that stretch for the simple reason that there are landslides. Although something like this was recommended, it was decided that the road is still being built on that section and that is why we have such problems today. If the route had been changed, they would not be the same as if the section had been made by national companies. Our construction worker knows the terrain he is working on very well, so there would be no damage to the asphalt. This could have been avoided by removing the hill to prevent landslides, but it was abandoned because it is an expensive investment, explains Rodić.

According to him, considering that the road was built in the place where there are landslides, where there are many tunnels, that road must be maintained regularly to avoid damage to the asphalt.

What is only known at this time is that the works on the Grdelica gorge have been underway for a week and will last until the end of the month, and there is two-way traffic on the road lane towards Vranje.

The construction of the route through the Grdelica gorge was accompanied by numerous problems, from the constant failure to meet deadlines, the collapse of slopes, to the change of project.

Even after the opening, citizens complained that the slope through the Grdelica gorge was unsafe, and authorities said at the time that there was no landslide, but that it just looked like this.

Experts estimated that Corredor 10 works were delayed due to poor project preparation and documentation, unrealistic promises delivered for political reasons, but also due to the lack of domestic construction operations that would perform that task in the most efficient way. adequate.

Due to the demolition of the slope, Line Minister Zorana Mihajlović “moved” a part of the cabinet to the Grdelička Gorge in early December last year to “supervise” and speed up the works, Južne vesti recalled.

Corridor 10 was inaugurated in May of last year with music and fireworks, and three months later the asphalt of the section between Caricina dolina and the Manajle tunnel cracked.
