The results of the experience that will shed light on the tragic death of eight nineteen-year-olds that took place on New Year’s Eve in Tribistovo, near Posušje and on the black envelope from Bosnia and Herzegovina, are still being worked on at the Center of Experts in Sarajevo.
The Acting Prosecutor of the Canton of Western Herzegovina, Borislav Čuljak, told Klix that, according to previous investigations, four girls and four boys are supposed to have suffocated the exhaust gases from the unit, but that the case will be clarified with the results of the investigation. experience in Sarajevo.
Experience in emergencies
– The prosecution and the police did everything possible and now we can only wait for the final results of Sarajevo, to know the real truth and conclude this case – said Culjak. He adds that they requested that an expert report be made in an emergency procedure, so that the death of eight young people is clarified as soon as possible, but that it was a process that was not easy, and could not be completed as quickly as many hope it will end.
– We present blood samples taken during the autopsy for toxicological and other tests, all the traces and material evidence that we found during the investigation, as well as the findings of all the expert examinations that were carried out here – explained the acting prosecutor.
The West Herzegovina Canton Police Commissioner Milan Galic said that this is the most difficult case he has ever done and that he remembers this area, and believes that expertise will be a priority even if it is a complex process, because there is great interest public in these results.
Remember that the Police secured the place of the tragedy for days to be able to do all the necessary expert reports in detail and assume that the death of eight young people was caused by asphyxia by exhaust gases from the unit, but that confirmation of the competent authorities.
– At the site, the expert carried out an appraisal of the unit that operated throughout the night, as well as the fireplace and wood stove in which embers were found, and all traces were taken – Galić explained.
They were found by friends from the celebration.
He explained to us that the bodies of four girls and four boys were found by his friends who were celebrating New Year’s Eve with them, and they were sleeping in a nearby cabin.
– When they got up in the morning, they threw firecrackers and as no one came out, a guy went to see what was wrong with them and found a shocking sight, eight dead friends – said the ZHK MUP commissioner, specifying that the guy reported the case to the policeman. They found. As you said, six people sitting on the corner of seats, while two people sitting on the edges were on the floor.
– The very fact that when they entered the auxiliary facility that they found the unit working enough speaks for itself and that the cabin was locked and that there was not a single window open except for a small one that was open in the statue that had asphyxia by exhaust gases. – Galic explains for Klix.
According to him, that small window, which was ajar, connected the cabin and the auxiliary building in which the unit was located, and did not release fresh air but brought poisonous gases from said room, which most likely suffocated eight lives.
– That pantry has two doors facing each other, and when our officers arrived, one was completely closed, the other only slightly open, as well as a small window of the cabin that is connected to that pantry, while the unit worked the entire night – explains. .
The front door of the cabin was locked and all the aluminum openings were closed so that, according to him, no oxygen could enter.
The air was not coming
-I think that the poisonous gas puts them to sleep slowly and that they cannot feel anything, if it is made in carbon monoxide, because it has exactly those properties, but all that will be determined by the expertise – he points out. He points out that there is a possibility that poisonous gases come from fireplaces or wood stoves, because there were embers when the bodies were found, but that there is no need to speculate, because the final results of the expert opinion will shed light on this tragic case.
The sad story of this region of Herzegovina resonated in the national and regional media, because such a tragic start to the New Year is not remembered.
