The parents of Minja Matić and Anika Manić, along with all of Serbia, are fighting to raise funds for the expensive drug “Zolgensma” for the treatment of children with spinal muscular atrophy. It is, we remind you, a drug that is taken once in a lifetime and costs 2.1 million dollars, without the costs of treatment.
50 percent of the amount required for Anika was raised. The Hungarian hospital sent a notification that Anika should receive the therapy as soon as possible, as early as January, because the doctor’s recommendation is to receive the therapy before the child reaches a weight of 13.5 kg. For that to be possible, the money must be collected in mid-December, so that you can go to Hungary for treatment in mid-January.
As a friend of the family said, everyone is in a panic, because it seems a bit impossible to collect another half of the amount in a month, but everyone believes in a positive result. That is around 600,000 to 700,000 messages.
Anika is still in Denmark with her parents. She is stable for now, there are days when she is happy and eager to play.
– She is our champion, because she lived her second birthday, which is a rarity for children suffering from spinal muscular atrophy. That is why the doctors warned her that she must receive therapy before she reaches a weight of 13.5 kilograms – Katarina Ivanović told us.
As indicated on the Facebook profile for the Minja opportunity, the time for the Kragujevac girl is getting shorter, her condition is getting worse.
As Minja’s mother Živka said, she currently has a cold, cough and at least for now she has no fever, so she is in a bad mood these days.
“If you get pneumonia, we’ll do the same thing again, hospital, strong antibiotics,” says Zivka.
In addition, we are concerned about the possibility of implanting PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, catheter used for nutrition), which would further aggravate this already difficult situation of yours. The doctors believe that Minja is not swallowing very well, they think that she is progressing slowly. She is already big and has little weight. At three months, before the diagnosis, he weighed almost six kilograms, and now he is 13 months and six and a half kilograms, he has gained just over half a kilogram throughout the year. It seems to me that he is swallowing, but doctors say he has a lot of saliva left in his mouth. Who knows where the food goes. A part can go to the lungs, and hence so many infections – says his mother.
For now, mothers are just over a million dollars short of treating the child. According to the mother, they cannot wait for the bazaars to pass by the weekend and for the payments to pass, so there will be more money in the account. In a short time, Zivka says, about $ 1.2 million was raised in about two and a half months. On the recommendation of the parents of little Sofia, who is being cared for in Los Angeles, Matići would also treat her daughter there, but, as the mother says, about that later.
Today, a bazaar is organized in Indjija, in Raska today and tomorrow from 11 am to 3 pm, bazaars for Oliver, Anika and Minja, in Fruška Gora on Sunday, Anika’s mother’s colleagues invite him for a walk in nature, the meeting is at 10 in the parking lot in front of the Ravanica monastery in Vrdnik, and the planned length of the route is about 10 km. In Novi Sad, Petrovaradin, on Sunday November 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., a Humanitarian Bazaar will be held for Anika, Olivera and Minja. The money will also go to his accounts from the teddy bear auction that used to decorate Gardoš’s cafe the other day.
