Minister Vukosavljević installed a refrigerator in the official car, that’s the only thing you will remember it for!

Serbia will soon have a new government, and most likely a new Minister of Culture, because those familiar with political events say that Vladan Vukosavljevic will almost certainly not remain at the helm of that department.

The director of the Belgrade Game Festival (BFI), Aja Jung, recently stated that what he leaves behind cannot be repaired for even three generations, and in an interview with Kurir reveals an interesting fact: that Vukosavljević installed a refrigerator in his official car . and stay remembered.

In addition, Jung talks about the BFI, which is currently underway and which managed to bring art groups from Buenos Aires, Cannes, Barcelona to Belgrade …

He has often had controversies with Minister Vukosavljevic. How do you evaluate your performance over the past four years?

– Nothing worth mentioning here. Culture has lost. “Travel, master, and do not turn around. What you leave behind, I cannot fix three generations” is the last line of the film. The rush to exit is on, and then there will be commercials. It is important to remember who mention the museums that this last minister, when friends call him Johnny out of pity, was impressed by the opening of two museums. Some other people have been working on it seriously and for a long time. He managed to cut the tape, but journalists did not They recognized him, which infuriated him greatly.

How will your ministry be remembered?

– Because he installed a refrigerator in the official car.

Many complained about the way the Ministry of Culture distributes the money. What do you say to that?

– I’m not saying anything. Many answers are missing, because the minister has learned to shout his phrases out loud and simply insult everyone if he does not wink. However, one of my questions was: where is the minister at the time of the pandemic? Thanks to Kurir we found out that he was fine, he was just busy with some of his projects. The successors will analyze the business of a company called the Ministry of Culture and Information.

Wait, you say Vukosavljevic turned the ministry into a company?

– Unhappy company, in the shadow of the vanity of a mindless character. I am sorry that this is the case, because there are very hard-working and high-quality people there.

Aside from the aforementioned refrigerator, what is the craziest thing the minister spent budget money on?

– There are countless sad anecdotes that have cost Serbia its reputation and its money. From Tehran and Paris to Venice and Beijing … We also remember the arrival of the UNESCO director in Belgrade. That would be one of the most important moments for any Minister of Culture. However, our minister decided to leave Belgrade in those days. In a short break.

Where could you work after the ministry?

– I think it’s going back to retail.

The Belgrade Games Festival is underway. What is your experience with the organization at the time of the crown?

– After a six-month theatrical hiatus in Serbia, BFI brought its first international guest appearances. We welcome the best artists and our audience in changing circumstances, with masks on their faces, keeping their distance, with a handshake, temperature measurement, daily tests … Troops arrived from Barcelona, Cannes, Buenos Aires , Rijeka … In Belgrade and Novi Sadu was greeted with a standing ovation. This is clear proof that no screen, channel and social media, philosophizing and forewords can replace the magic of theater.

What has changed in the organization?

– Since the arrival of the virus that changed our lives, from March to today, we are in constant communication with artists, troupes, sponsors and the public. We exchange information and concerns, analyze solutions, attend to and plan following epidemiological protocols. It seems that the most notorious change is precisely that instability, uncertainty, situations that force us to do each job several times … The Belgrade Game Festival, whose 17th edition will be the longest of all the previous ones, does not give up on its programs. We are not going to give up any performer, choreographer, important artistic engagements and events, work done, audience … There will be more serious obstacles on the way, requiring courage and luck. But it is always more interesting to seek solutions for action than excuses for inaction. On the other hand, today that action is related to survival. It is a struggle of fundamental importance for the theater, for the work, for art in general.

What do your guests from abroad say? What are the experiences in the world?

– It’s not easy anywhere. During the summer, some festivals took place in European cities, theaters and opera houses reopened … Some works were redirected, the staging was changed so that the artists moved away from each other, while the public capacity varied from a third of the seats filled to full halls in Berlin and Paris, where theater audiences are believed to be wary. During that time, everything stopped in the United States. Arts, creative industries, entertainment … Twelve million people in this sector are out of work. Broadway theaters, the famous Metropolitan Opera, were closed, so the dancers of the New York City Ballet, which we expected in March, disbanded and without income until January 2021. The situation is also difficult in Israel, a country that it has been a real force in the field of modern play. Some comparsas will disappear, numerous productions, performances and tours have been canceled, and the state cannot help everyone. Canadian artists are prohibited from traveling until the end of the year, while Italians and Belgians, if they come to Serbia, must return to quarantine … France is better able to cope with the pandemic, thanks to a system created to withstand any storm. When we descend to the level of an individual, the general impression is that this storm unequivocally reveals the brave, persistent and capable, pointing the finger at those who are not.

FINANCING OF CULTURE

There is little money, it is important how it is divided

What does culture lack more today: money or will?

– There is always little money, but the much more important question is how the money is distributed. In front of dedication and will are knowledge, taste, openness to information, suggestions, comparisons … Sometimes there is money, but all this seriously creaks.

ART IN THE AGE OF THE CROWN

The screen is not the solution

What did the crown contribute to culture?

– It took a lot, and what it will bring remains to be seen. I don’t think the screen is the solution. It can only be information. The performing arts are the most affected by the pandemic. Live people, contact, sweat, rehearsals, drops, touches … Museums, galleries, but also musical programs overcome problems much more easily. On the condition that they have a program or ideas.
