Ivan Ćajić (43) from Boljevac was killed on Monday in the brown coal mine “Bo Herzegovina” in Boljevac, when coal fell on him and buried him. The accident occurred while the miner was in a flat coal bunker.
I tried to help
– Ivan was digging and, as they say, his hoe slipped. Wanted to get to her, said, “Oh my hoe is gone.” He caught up with her, and his last words were: “I’m going too.” Then a large amount of coal fell on him. At first, they buried him up to his shoulders, but then more coal fell on him and buried him completely, colleagues say.
They say that they tried to help Ivan, that they ran fast, but did not see him for a second, and that he was in a coal about eight feet deep.
– There was no possibility of removing all the coal from above to be able to remove it. We also had to unroll from below. It was tied up and secured in a bunker, and one of the workers got on to cut the rope while we unloaded the coal and then pulled it out, but sadly there was no way out. That lasted about ten minutes: agitated miners say and add that Ćajić’s mouth was filled with fine coal.
He was able
Colleagues describe Ivan as a very good and hard working man.
– He worked as a Thracian, had experience, he worked in a mine for about 20 years. Apart from being very honest and hardworking, he was extremely intelligent. He was fluent in English, very smart and capable, add the workers.
