– We got closer and when we opened the door, the first thing we asked them was if they were okay. With a smile, they said that everything was as it should be and after that everything was easy – With these words, the conversation begins the hunter Bojan Životijev of Despotovac, who was the first to reach Milica Mirjanić (20) and Stefan Russov on Sunday after several hours of searching. 27), both from Belgrade, who disappeared on Saturday at the foot of Beljanica mountain near Despotovac.
Members of the Ministry of the Interior, the Serbian Mountain Rescue Service, locals, family and friends participated in the search for these two young men. The agony lasted all day because it was learned that they left by car when he was nowhere to be found either.
Fortunately, around 5.30 p.m., they were found alive and kicking in a cabin on the Brezovica plateau, and about a mile and a half from there, their car was found.
– The search was organized, everyone stood aside so that not everyone looked in the same place. We go towards that part, there is a chickadee there, but also that hunting lodge. As we got closer we noticed a light. When we opened the door, I think there was no end to her happiness. They started talking about what had happened to them.
That is, two to three kilometers away, your car got stuck. There was snow on the road and they had no chains on the wheels. They got out of the vehicle and sought refuge – says this young hunter.
They explained that they found a hut and entered.
– They saw that there was flour and slices of meat in it and they were as they said sure that they could last two days with that food and that there was no reason to panic. They tried to light a fire, but the room was smoking and they couldn’t sleep inside. Luckily, they came out because, who knows, they might have suffocated from that smoke – Zivotijev remembers the moments.
According to him, Milica and Stefan found a large sleeping bag, spread it out, and decided to sleep outside.
– There were two of them and a dog in the bag. However, as they explained, they were scared at one point when they saw wild boars. They said they slept, although I’m not sure how much they dared to relax in that desert. According to the description, I would say that they were not wild pigs but manguls, but there are also wild pigs and, what is worse, wolves – says the hunter and adds that Stefan and Milica first asked them to go somewhere at the signal to call yours.
Meanwhile, members of the GSSS arrived and found a “Peugeot” trapped not far from there, and with them Stefan’s uncle’s brother.
– We went in a column, and when fortunately we found them, they got into a car with their relatives and left for the police station – said Dušan Starinac, a member of the GSSS.
The old man explains that Milica and Stefan went through like this because they relied on navigation and went to the mountain quite unsuspecting.
– When you move to the mountain, you should definitely tell your family where you are going. Thankfully they did, but they relied on navigation and got lost in the moment. When something like this happens, it is better to go back down the same path than to continue into the unknown. Also, if something like this happened to me, I would stay in the car because they were lucky enough to find a cabin, and on the other hand, there is a better chance that someone will find you in the car – explained Strainac, who has been with the GSSS for nine years.
