Legendary Serbian handball player Nenad Perunicic, in his confession to Kurir about his career and private life, said that relations between Serbia and Montenegro are related to sport, and explained why he was called an older Serbian nationalist.
– Relations between Serbia and Montenegro. It is something tangible. Once again, I link it to sports and everything that happened on the EP. Some people from Montenegro made no secret of their enormous hatred for Serbia. The horrible thing is so much animosity from Montenegro towards Serbia. I don’t get into politics. I have many friends who support Milo Đukanović, but that does not enter my relationship and theirs, they are mine, brothers, friends and always will be. I don’t convince them, but I don’t let them convince me of some things. Especially not in history and tradition. But then you get to the situation that those who made a name for themselves in Serbia, who won well in Serbia, pathologically hate Serbia, because someone convinced them that it is not exactly as it is written in history. I was also crucified after the defeat of Montenegro in the European Championship, some claimed that I was a minor Serbian. (sigh) It was bad. They called me a Greater Serbia nationalist because I support the litia. Do you understand that? If I am a Greater Serbian nationalist because I supported my people, my country and my church, then I did! I have never been a chauvinist. And you confuse those two terms. I love mine and I don’t give a damn – Perunicic said in a big confession to Kurir.
Perunicic also said that many Montenegrins come to Serbia where they have work.
– There are many in Montenegro who were great Serbian nationalists, so after ten years they changed and forgot all that. If you don’t love Serbia, you hate Serbia, then you don’t accept it. Why the hypocrisy? Many of the Serbian haters come to Belgrade, there are companies here, restaurants, they make a lot of money here, they are nice here, great … And, when they cross the borders, the worst of Serbs and Serbia. I don’t like that pettiness and hypocrisy. I like people with attitude. If you hate Serbia, you hate it, it’s your choice, but don’t come here and sell hypocrisy. The great Amfilohije managed to awaken the conscience of the Serbs in Montenegro, his glory and mercy. Somewhere they lulled us with everything that the West and America offered us, and we accepted it, everything that we were ashamed of until a decade ago – said the mythical handball.
