Today, the Serbian Orthodox Church and its believers celebrate a festival dedicated to Saint Nectarios of Aegina, one of the greatest healers in the history of Christianity.

Saint Nectarios is an Orthodox saint and theologian, born Anastasia Kefalas. He was born on October 1, 1846 in Thrace into a poor family. After primary school, he moved to Constantinople, and in 1866 he moved to the city of Chios, where he worked as a teacher. After ten years of service, he became a monk and took the name Lazarus.

In 1877 he received a monastic vow with the name of Nectarios and the rank of hierodeacon. He lived in Athens for several years, graduating in 1885 from the Athens Faculty of Theology. The following year, 1886, he was ordained a priest.

In the same year, he received the rank of archimandrite and became secretary to the Patriarchate of Alexandria. In 1889 he was elected Metropolitan of Pentapolis.

Nectarios received the ministry of preacher in Greece in 1892, and in the period 1894-1908. he ran a theological school in Athens. After retiring, he lived in the Trinity Monastery in Aegina, after which he was named Aeginski.

He died in Athens, on November 8, 1920, of prostate cancer. He was canonized in 1961 by the Patriarchate of Constantinople. What is more interesting, several miracles of healing occurred over his relics.

The relics of this saint are found in the monastery of Tumane near Golubac, and there are also two prayers to this saint, which are believed to help in the treatment of diseases.

It is believed that by praying to Saint Nectary, many believers were able to find salvation from cancer, paralysis, Parkinson’s disease, and people with kidney, eye, and brain problems were healed.

Some miracles have even been recorded that he saved people in various accidents: traffic, shipwrecks, and even shark attacks and snake bites.

Most people suffering from cancer and other malignant diseases ask Saint Nectarius of Aegina for help. He performed miracles, as they say, during his life, but they became especially visible after his death.

Today is also the glory of the Institute of Oncology of the Serbian Clinical Center, as Saint Nectarius of Aegina is believed to be able to cure cancer.

That’s why today’s believers abstain from work hard and devote the day to prayer for health, which must mention the name of Saint Nectarios of Aegina.

MOLITVA SVETOM NEKTARIJU EGINSKOM ČUDOTVORCU

Oh myrrh head, Saint Nectarius, Archbishop of God!

In the time of great apostasy and wickedness, you graciously sifted and crushed the head of the proud Satan, who struck us down.

That is why Christ gave you the gifts to cure incurable diseases, which afflicted us for our iniquities.

We believe: the God of the just has loved you to have mercy on us sinners, to free us from the curse, to free us from sickness and to glorify in his universe the terrible and glorious Name of Him, the Father and the Son and the Spirit Holy, now and forever. centuries centuries.

Amin.
