Majic on Pollution: We pretend to be blind for years, homes are the main polluters

“I am a citizen who feels in vital danger, surrounded by something that will shorten my life, as well as that of all my relatives in a few years, and I have the right to protest and breathe quality air. I would like to provoke experts in heating, combustion and all the legal issues of control inspections of quality inspections of products sold on the market, “said the director of the research station” Petnica “Vigor Majić lives in Dan.

Let us remind you, a video clip appeared on social media in which he marks the “coal mafia” as the main responsible for the drastic jump in air pollution in Serbia, which, as he says, sells tailings with a large percentage of clay in real coal place.

“The media must decide for themselves what they are going to broadcast, but it must be fresh information, and I was surprised when journalists started calling me and asking me what exactly I said, and that was nine months ago. Of course, the situation has not changed, we are entering winter with an even worse state of the air we breathe. The corona has also arrived, as a pervasive lung disease, which certainly has to do with how we maintain our lungs, what we breathe and what settles in them. “, says Majic. .

He adds that this is a very worrying situation.

“I have a couple of curves in my head, a few eyes and a couple of nostrils. I don’t think we need to understand our surroundings any more. We spent years pretending to be blind, this topic was not discussed, and we saw where it was in social networks and foreign sites. “Serbia and Valjevo are on the other side. On the other hand, it should have happened in Belgrade too, so that the central media started talking about it, “says Majic.

In his opinion, if the problem of pollution remained only in Valjevo, Nis or Lazarevac, not much would be said about it.

“Kolubara lignite is the main cause of pollution”

He reiterated that the Kolubara lignite is one of the main causes of this amount of pollution in our country.

“Kolubara lignite is for sale, raw and dry, as one of the lower quality coals, which you cannot get for households in Europe. And I think there is a whole chain of responsibility, from REIK, who owns from that land, where the reserves are. ugja, to all the inspections and services and scientific institutes where there are experts who must warn about what we are lying and how good it is, “says Majić.

Our interlocutor points out that we cannot eliminate charcoal, but that we can raise the level of what is sold as firewood.

“REIK Kolubara and thermal power plants in my opinion have a great impact on the air quality in Serbia, however, they work all year round and we have pollution mainly in winter. This means that the main cause of pollution is individual households. large plants have filters to reduce pollution. but individual households do not. The problem is that people are not educated, informed of what is being done, “warns Majic.

As he specified, he does not know who extracts crude lignite from the tailings and which three should be investigated.

“Since these are goods that are sold in hundreds of thousands of tons a year, it deserves to be seen if those who handle it know what they are dealing with and what they sell in bags, without it being a cat,” concludes Majić.
